Delayed Access Charge from removal company

Sorry - I was trying to keep my opening post short, and seem to have missed out vital information! I'm still learning the ropes here...
The vendor went ahead with the move on the Tuesday as planned and we were told she went to stay with her daughter who lives near her new house for a few days.
The charge is therefore to cover the fact that the removal company loaded and then had to unload and store for 4 days.
I understand that there will be costs, but question the fact that the invoice is not itemised in any way, and £500 seems a lot of money.
With regard to notice of the potential delay, we informed our solicitor on the Wednesday of the previous week of our concerns.0 -
£500 is probably about right really - I cannot see that you have any grounds to refuse to pay it as you are liable for any costs associated with not completing in the agreed timescale - that said, normal procedure would be to charge you interest and any consequential loss by you failing to complete prior to actual completion. It does seem quite significantly after the event to bring up this invoice.0

Charge sounds entirely reasonable (itemization will probably just say N Hours Labour: £500 or similar). Though I would question why she had to put it in storage. If no chain couldn't she move in on the Tuesday as originally planned?0 -

The vendor went ahead with the move on the Tuesday as planned - right, so where's the loss? and we were told she went to stay with her daughter who lives near her new house for a few days. - Where was the property though, the furniture etc?

As I say the vendor must mitigate their loss, if storing was cheaper than cancelling and rebooking, they have done so.0 -

* there was a chain.
The OP is confused.0 -
By "no chain" I meant that there were only 2 parties involved - us and the vendor. No one was moving out of the house she was buying.
I apologise for my confusion.0 -

So there was 3 parties involved!
You
Your vendor
AND her vendor
It doesn't matter if someone was 'moving out' or not. She was buying from someone (a private person or a company)0 -
The vendor of the place you bought couldn't complete her onward purchase because your money wasn't where it should have been. Presumably you only found out the day before completion that this was the case? I can well imagine that it was too short notice to reschedule the move and going ahead but storing her stuff for a couple of days was mitigation.
Just pay the bill.0 -
You reneged on a completion date then?
I'd pay the £500 and consider myself lucky....0 -
The removal company had a delay because the vendor couldn't complete on her purchase (of an empty house) because we hadn't transferred the entire amount we owed her for this house to her account for her to go ahead with her purchase. We were £7,000 short while we waited for that investment to arrive in our account.
Although she was downsizing and had received sufficient money from us to complete on her purchase on time, the solicitor (understandably) wouldn't proceed until that outstanding £7000 was paid.
I hope that explains it clearly.
The invoice reads "Extra to quote To unload and reload because of delay: £500"
Seems entirely reasonable. The removal company arrived, packed up, hung around, then unpacked then did it all again three days later. £500 for moving is a fairy low fee could easily have been more, you made her pay for an extra move.
Storage would not have mitigated anything, they'd need to move it into storage and then out again, indeed there would have been a charge for extra storage so might have been more.0
