Sorry if I've mislead anyone!!!! Please accept my apologies. I honestly thought that was the case as it was in the paper a few years ago. I've even got the relevant page still. I had no idea the law had been updated last year so thank you for correcting me. My sil has just popped by by & I've been discussing it with him, he's been a retail manager for 20 yrs approx. He said there's different rules for different things. I'm sure he said it was 6 yrs for white goods but there again I might have been having a senior moment!

The 2 years that you first posted is a European warranty, we don't go by that, because our laws are more generous.
You are right about the 6 years but it is UP TO 6 years.
As I said earlier any electrical item must last a reasonable amount of time. I would say a printer should last more than 14 months.
The OP needs to contact the retailer ( if no joy from the manufacturer ) and ask for an out of warranty claim.

I did this with Currys on a 30 month old tv, I had to pay £60 for the claim but if you win you get it back.
After having the tv back 3 times with the exact same fault they offered me half the original cost ( £450 + £60 ) :) And since tv's prices had dropped considerably by then I bought a better tv for an extra £250 :D

Oh and the tv is still in use now 4 years later :rotfl:
