£250 i3 laptop sought

Options
Are there any i3 laptops out there (new) for less than £250 ?
My father wants one and I have been tasked with locating one ...
i3 appears preferable to celeron or any alternatives
It must be 15" - so no miniatures
Thanks

Depends what the laptop is used for. The current Celerons are not so badly crippled as the originals. That said I'd always pick one of the Core models processors these days unless there was some really good reason not to.

BTW The mini laptops are often more expensive than the 15inch ones.

if you are willing to go refurb (*still 12 month warranted) get a core i5 laptop http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Asus-X555MA-15-6-Inch-4GB-1TB-Laptop-Windows-8-Black-/331718690966
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

You will definitely be able to get an i3 in that price range. You may also want to look at AMD A6 and A8s which are commonly around that price.

Occasionally you will find some i5s and AMD A10s for that price (new) but they do tend to sell out very quickly.

I wouldn't pay more than £50 for a current laptop with a celeron, yes they are that crippled.

How do AMD processors compare to Intel nowadays ?

What is wrong with any of the machines linked to in post#2?

The first one fits your specification exactly.

Nothing is wrong with it ...
I agree - in fact, I have advised my Father to consider the second one (an extra £5 to have Win 10 pre-installed)
He only wants it for web browsing

Why not go for this Dell Inspiron 17-5749 It's just within budget and it should be 'as new'.

    Intel Core i3 5005U 2.0GHz
    Memory
    8Gb
    Hard Drive
    1Tb
    Video
    Intel HD Graphics
    Screen Size
    17.3″

He might appreciate the bigger screen.
