Does anyone here have access to recent Sale Prices at BCA Auctions? I am interested in a few Cars that are coming up, but before traveling there I would like to know if I have about the right ballpark figure in mind, especially considering their quite high additional fees.

I am looking for a 2011/2012 520D Estate with between 80K and 100K miles.

Thanks,
dsab

Any price you find will be a guide.

The way traders do it is usually by noting down sold prices, you will often see them with the auction catalogue noting prices of cars.

Manheim used to have a facility that provided those who signed up a price estimate, I tried it but found the prices where higher than they should be and likely just a way to get private buyers at auction to overpay.

Because even at auction a car is worth what somebody will pay.

What sort of reserve would be set on a 3 year old golf tdi?
  • Take a look at a website I recently came across - some entertaining videos and info and Chris has just added a searchable database of recent prices achieved - I assume he does it by writing them down and then uploading them

Look at prices at Car Supermarkets, if you are not at least a £1000 cheaper then you are paying too much (after you add buyers premium)

You see private buyers at auction all the time and they invariably pay almost retail for cars with no retail back up.

Checkout local traders prices for nice cars and not tatty ones and bid a bit more than that.

Thanks I spent plenty of time at auctions when I was younger so know the added fees etc.

I have a mk7 golf tdi on lease hire I want to keep if the price is right in a few month's, was curious what they are making at auction. I know the lease companies rarely pay seller fees or at a lower rate anyway.
  • If you've got the time, buying from private buyers on Autotrader can net you prices similar to auction ones with exactly the same amount of comeback (minimal).

There are many private buyers at auctions and any decent small car retailer will source their cars elsewhere. Bigger franchised dealers can buy at higher prices so tend to visit the auctions. The auctioneer will also know all the people bidding and buying. They will know immediately when a private buyer is bidding and the price will go higher . Private bidders only bid on the car they want , auctioneers are alot better than people think (that don't know the business well) .
I have bought numerous cars at auction. I only buy cars that are still under manufacturers warranty , less than 3 years old.

Not sure it matters if a private buyer goes higher than a trader would have bid for a car. If the buyers happy with the price they paid and it's cheaper than the car would have cost at a dealer there's a fair chance they got a good deal.

As soon as you are spotted as a private buyer the auctioneer will totally focus on you and get you to up your bid even if there hasn't been a bid outbiding the private buyer , used to be called bouncing bids off the wall. There is alot more to buying at auction . Th auctioneer is able to just say it hasn't met the reserve and run the car through again. The Auctioneers at our local Manheim are top quality (For Manheim). I would suggest latching onto a dealer who could bid for you , give them £200 for bidding for you cash . Would save you the buyers premium too which is quite a bit on £10k cars plus (£400ish)
