I have £10,000 in my bank account and recently received a debt letter from lowells regarding my mobile phone debt from 3 mobile.
I cancelled the direct debit before the contract ended in 2012 and now they're chasing me up. The debt is £177.67.
If I don't pay this debt will my bank freeze or close my account and take all the funds in my account which is £10,000?.

No not at all.
The creditor would have to go to court, get a CCJ, you would have to ignore it, the creditor would have to enforce it, you would have to attend court to give your financial details, the creditor would have to apply for a freezing order, you would still have to refuse to pay before they take the £10,000.
If you don't agree with the bill no matter how old complain about it.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Sounds like the debt is valid, cancelling the DD whilst the contract is still active isn't the best course of action.0

Just read the OP's last post, don't tell me you canceled the direct debit ?0

The phone got water damage and it wasn't covered by insurance. They wouldn't give me a new phone so I cancelled the direct debit.0

That is not the Companies fault then as you damaged it and they have a right to cover certain things and not others, By rights you owe them and should just pay up.0 -
as you said in your thread title, it's a debt, so pay it!The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0

Why would they give you a new phone? The phone isn't leased, it's yours from day one (to insure or not as you wish), and the contract is for the airtime, not the handset.
I suggest you check your credit file as a matter of urgency, as you may well find your credit record is now trashed for the next 6 years. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Less than 6 as it was in 2012.0

Wouldn't it be stealing if they took the whole £10,000, when all I owe is £177.67?.0
