Which Year Was The Best Of Your Life?

  • 2003 to 2005 were just amazing, life was like a huge firework display and I was just enchanted with it all. I was 50, but it was like everything was magical and fresh and new all over again.

2010 onwards, not so good, but I'm looking forward to an upturn soon.

1977 - I got married, had my daughter, completed a secretarial course at college, the heatwave started on my wedding way and lasted for weeks - and The Stranglers were No1 with 'Peaches'! Life was good!

76 was the year of the heatwave but 77 was pretty good too. It was my final year at Uni and the year England won the Ashes back from the Aussies because most of their star players were left at home because they joined Kerry Packers World Series. I remember sitting in the sun at Trent Bridge and enjoying every ball.

every year is good; next year will be the best providing I'm still around at the end of it!

I'm going to have to say 2015.

The years leading up to it have had many ups and downs, but last year changed all of that when i met the bf. Suddenly everything is ok, and i'm feeling the most positive i have in a very ling time. I have a future and i feel its all good from here.

As an aside 2008-2011 were the worst years (well unless you include my entire time at school :o )

As things go I've not had any truly terrible years - you know, no-one's died or been terminally ill. However, I would say last year was my best year yet even though I was very ill and off work for 3 months with my third episode of severe depression and anxiety. It was the most ill I've been with depression and I didn't react well to my medication at first.
However, it finally made me realise that I needed to look after myself more and figure out what I wanted out of life. I decided to start volunteering at my local Citizens Advice, cut back on my hours at the supermarket where I worked, start a new part time job doing audio transription from home. At the end of the year I got a part time job at the CA and was able to hand in my notice at the supermarket. Oh and me and the hubby got a very healthy financial windfall in December.
I also got married and went on my honeymoon last year. So, that was totally amazing as well. I'll never forget that day and those two weeks.
So, last year was a year of transition. I see no reason why this year can't improve on last year now that I have a very healthy work life balance, am fairly financially secure and don't have to stress about getting married and can just enjoy being married.

2013 - i found out I was pregnant in Jan 2013 and was very lucky to have a relatively blissful pregnancy. My little fella was born at the beginning of October and unfortunately the aftermath of the birth was awful. So most of 2013 was amazing!

2014 and 2015 were great too (bar some health issues) ! It's soppy but my little boy really has made my life better in a way I never expected. We just seem to live and enjoy life more.

I started a new job exactly a year ago after 13 years in the same company. And I love it!
  • 2004 - year I got a job with the best personal finance help site in the UK, if not the world. I think the words I said to Martin were "You're going to pay me to do something I love doing anyway?" ;)

    2007 - first daughter born

    2009 - second daughter born

    2016 - it's the Year of Fun 2016 :)

  • 1984 the year I left college and went travelling with friends. Best year of my life and had some amazing experiences and met some amazing people. Backpacking in those days was not as common as it is now and not so many airlines/flights available to get around so we had to find various ways of travelling through countries and continents - hitchiking being one! An experience I will not forget.

2014 was a good year for me - I paid off my mortgage and was finally able to leave the job and commute I hated! I've been temping since then and have a quality of life and more importantly, have my health back.
Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free :)
    Mortgage free since 2014 :)

Since I am a bit of a worrywart about everything it is not the external experiences which make or break my years but my personality. Having said that, I feel extremely blessed with my life and I have a great family and home. I am grateful for everything I have as I didn't have an ideal childhood and things looked up after I left home.

Having said that, when I (unexpectedly) had to retire early at 55 to avoid a 'crash and burn' situation I was absolutely ecstatic every morning for six months after I woke up and realised I never had to go in and face a classroom of dear children, the management or OFSTED again.

On the whole though, I'd describe my life as one of steady contentment rather than of highs and lows.
