    raid setups have been tried in the past using SSD drives , no noticeable difference in performance can be seen by a human

    Agreed - SSDs are incredibly fast. RAID would be sensible for redundancy if you had more SSD drives than you needed.

    SAdly the OP doesn't need an Icybox enclosure, he has an external board connected via a Sata III cable according to his other thread see here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5391618
