eggs - best to keep in the fridge?

Options
Should eggs be stored in the fridge or at room temperature? my sis in law says they should be left out at room temp and my friend says they should be kept in the fridge. So where do you store your eggs and is there any legislation advice on this?

I keep mine out on the worktop and they are fine - I think Delia suggests this too.
The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese
  • They should be stored at room temperature. Lots of recipes work out much better if the egg is at room temperature before using.

However, I keep mine in the fridge and if I have to, I take the required number out early, to warm up slightly, before using.

Keep mine out on the worktop, but have seen instructions on some boxes to refrigerate. They don't refrigerate them in the supermarket, though

I don't use that many eggs, so I tend to store them in the fridge and bring them out an hour before I use them (if I remember!). The whites seem to beat better etc if they are not chilled, and boiled eggs are less likely to crack.

Tomatoes are also better if not stored in the fridge, but a lot of this sort of advice was given out in the days when most people would have had a cool larder to store food in. If every room in your house is heated, then you really have to consider the likely turnover of food when you are deciding if it can be left out of the fridge

Really great! I thought there were mutterings of not eating too many a week or something but I don't really take too much conscious notice :)
  • It says on the pack I bought this week to store in the fridge POINT SIDE UP!

    What's that all about?

I take no notice of 'mutterings', either. I listen to my body - it's the best judge of telling me what I do and don't need to eat! And latest 'mutterings' state that they are beneficial for cholesterol, not bad for it. :)

I keep them on the worktop. Never had a problem with them, and they are always ready to use. They don't crack if I boil them either.
