Hi
Does anybody know if the name printed on a train ticket has to be your own name ?
I will be travelling on a ticket which is in the the name of a relative (female relative & Im male so it will be obvious its not me)
I guess not every ticket inspector would check this but would like to know if there might be an issue
regards

No. You can go by any name. You can even put Inigo Montoya on your ticket and no-one will care.
More accurately it depends where the train is going. If you're crossing an international border then the answer is yes as the name would need to match the name on your passport.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

Legally you can call yourself anything you want at any time. You don't need a Deed Poll to show that you've changed your name or go by a different name.
However, you want a link so how about http://www.redspottedhanky.com/frequently-asked-questions/train-ticketing/booking/
Is it possible to purchase a ticket for someone else?
Train tickets can be used by anyone even though certain tickets will have the name of the traveller or person who booked the tickets printed on them. E-tickets must be used by the person named on the ticket and must have the purchase credit card used with them. When you are making a booking you can request that the tickets are sent to a different address. If you do purchase tickets for someone else please note that enclosed with the tickets will be the sales receipt. This shows the last four digits of the credit card as well as the purchase price.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

What sort of ticket are you talking about here ?
In my experience most train tickets (singles, advance, off peak and peak returns) don't have the passengers name on them.
If you are talking about using someone else's season ticket, which is linked to a specific individuals photo id card, then these tickets aren't transferable and can only be used by the person whose id it is.0 -
its just an 'advance' ticket so according to the information in the links it doesnt have to be in my name0

If I buy a ticket ticket for my wife to use, it may have my name on it, but it will be being used by the intended traveller.
Nothing wrong with that.
To take that further, if I buy four tickets for myself and three friends to use, they may all have my name on them. So three of the travellers will be using tickets with someone else's name on it.0 -
what train company puts a name on the ticket?
I need to avoid them.0 -

You can buy tickets for anyone. Most tickets I use are bought by someone else, and most tickets I buy are for someone else.0 -
Assuming we're talking about normal National Rail tickets, printed on standard National Rail ticket stock, most tickets purchased online have the name of the purchaser printed on the ticket these days.

Would you not be better buying your own rather than each others0 -
