BA cancelled flight, but was offered re-routing. Question

Hi guys, before I begin sending template letters off to BA I would like to pick the brains of the experts on here to see if I have a valid claim for compensation for a cancelled flight from December 2015.
I checked in on the BA app the day before the flight and when I woke up in the morning I had an alert and text to say the flight had been cancelled. Immediately afterwards someone from BA rang me. They offered an alternate flight that was 30 minutes earlier than my original flight, but couldn't offer the same seat and instead offered a premium economy. I declined this and asked to be put on a flight the following day with the guarantee of a club world seat, which they did.
Following some of the information on the Which? website and specifically; "Re-routing The first thing to note is that you don't have a right to compensation if you're offered re-routing on a flight that leaves no more than one hour before the original flight booked and is scheduled to arrive no more than two hours later than the original flight.
If you are not offered a flight that falls within these time frames, or if you're offered no alternative flight at all, you can claim compensation."
This leads me to believe I'm not entitled to claiming for compensation as they offered an alternative (though not an exact like for like), but I would be interested to hear others thoughts.
Best,
Matt

What class was the seat you booked?, were they upgrading you (and expecting you to pay extra) or downgrading you?
Ah I checked they were downgrading you.
I think its uncharted territory there. Nothing specific in the regulation.
Could do no harm to send the usual letter from templates seeking compensation. If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide
The alleged Ringleader.........0 -
Thank you JPears, I will try that this week. Which of the templates do you think best fits?
Apologies for the delay in replying0
