Note the contrast with his shopping bag to a couple of weeks ago. I also asked him to cancel the card protection scheme and he did it within an hour! He also went and bought a cheap frying pan in order to make pancakes tonight and pointed out to me that it was the only one reduced. Glimmer of hope shining through?....0

I think your OH might be learning how to be frugal. Have you read the small print for the card insurance policy/policies? Would it have paid out if needed? Most don't cover the self-employed. If this is the case can you claim back the money you have paid? Might be worth checking out. Keep up the good work, M2m.Frugal Living Challenge 2025.0

If eating the right foods 2lt a days may be more than you need.
Filter can make a massive difference to taste as can a simple addition of a squeeze of lemon/lime can take off the edge
we are hardwater area, tea coffee are so much better filtered
I like carbonated and have settled on Tesco Ashbeck £1.50 8ltr.
Most other supermarkets have something around this price even Waitrose.(just easier to park for tesco)
becarefull the reason some waters taste better is the sodium content.
On the groceries/household front it would be quite hard to get to the sort of totals you had on the first SOA without some major clangers or waste going on.
There should be no need to be struggling with food even knocking a few hundred off the SOA(v1) there is plenty to eat well and buy water.
Stopping shopping is not the answer.
For now a simple spreadsheet will be the lowest effort to track.
as long as you capture the info it will be relatively easy to transfer it to something else later(export/import), what ever you choose you could aim for April as the this is how we need it working and then do a full plan/budget for tax year 2016/17 including sorting out the business accounts.0 -

Just looking into this CPP card protection plan....I don't need this anymore do I? So much to learn....
Forgot to follow up this CPP hit the news in 2014
I think you should have got a letter if what you had was covered.

Check exactly what you had and if there is a possible claim.
The same policy were sold through the banks etc.
here is natwest T&C as an example.

it was a type of insurance that covered all sorts of stuff rather than a payment protection type thing that would not cover self employed.0 -
Morning : )))
Thanks for the posts. Yes, I had read about the CPP protection claims and I will investigate. It did say the claim date has now ended and it would be a matter for the ombudsman; that would be a digression and not worth the effort if that is the case. But I will explore.
Getmore - perhaps I could get some really cheap bottled water. I remember Ashbeck - it's a good choice. Not sure we can get it around here. You made a great point about adding lemon - there's one in the kitchen so off to do that in a minute - thanks!
Plan for today is to ring up about a car we've seen, revise my SOA and have a quick look at spreadsheets. I'm also going to devote a couple of hours to my website which has been sitting in the background needing work for too long. I'm going to leave the actual website and just concentrate on my facebook page for the moment - I need some quick and easy means of getting word out that I am going to be up and running. I'm aware the first three clients are the hardest to clinch.
Bye for now.0 -

Is this not something Hubby should be looking at?
Did you even know this policy existed before you found the DD?0 -
No, getmore - didn't have a clue. Dreadful, hey. But I've woken up. Busy looking at new SOA.0

it was not a dig at you.
It was a subtle hint that hubby should have sorted this in 2014.
Perhaps I should have been more direct,
Did hubby remember it was there?
Did he get a letter about it(if it was one of those)?
Can he even remember why he thought it was a good idea in the first place?0 -
Hi FT
Have had a catchup. You have clearly been through a bit of a trough, but your recent posts sound more positive, this will continue to happen, but before long you will all be on an even keel.
I like the idea of hubby swapping cars, he may be more receptive of the car offer now.
I can understand where he is coming from on feeling the need to protect you, but you are the one with the time (at least currently) to instigate the fix required. Because you have been studying, and being a mum, you have not had the time to deal with the important financials of daily life. This is your opportunity, and hubby needs to appreciate this, to contribute to the finances and I don't just mean earning the cash.
You have been on a very steep learning curve recently, but what you have learnt will be the foundation to your future as a family. Ok, it will take a few years to get rid of the debt, but then you have the rest of your lives to enjoy your hard earned cash and at the same time bask in smugness at living within your means.
I realise that it will take a while for your business to start generating an income, but have you given some thought at the back of your mind on how you are going to deal with the income? Are the current bills paid from a single person's account or joint account? Will you need to review things so that you will both be contributing proportionately? Will you contribute more so that hubby can address the company financial situation? I'm not asking you answer the questions for me, just need you to ensure that you & hubby are in agreement beforehand rather than discovering at the time that you are on different wavelengths. You give the impression that hubby is a very proud man and wants to deal with things himself, well tell him you are a very proud woman, proud to have him as a husband and proud to support him, as he has you, through thick and thin. Together you will be a tower of strength.A smile costs little but creates much0
