I have a Dell computer that I've had since 2009, Windows Vista operating system. I'm perfectly happy with it and it's working fine.
However, today when I opened a webpage I get this message...
"This computer will soon stop receiving Google Chrome updates because Windows XP and Windows Vista will no longer be supported."
I presume it all relates to this...
http://chrome.blogspot.co.uk/2015/11/updates-to-chrome-platform-support.html
I have no great desire to upgrade at present, and I'm wondering if I should change browsers.
Any advice appreciated.

I'm running Chrome and XP on two separate machines, haven't had this message at all. Maybe there's an auto-update setting in Chrome that you have set to Y and I have set to N...0 -

If I were you I'd upgrade to Win10 as soon as you can. At some point the software you are running will need to be updated and the newer versions will not work on Vista.
Its much better to control the upgrade in your own time than to have it forced on you.0 -

But Google have no obligation to make Chrome available to any particular group of users.
When XP went out of support, I'm guessing they looked at the number of users, and thought there was an opportunity to gain extra converts to Chrome by offering support for Chrome beyond that date.
For Vista, I think user numbers are small, and perhaps there is some technical reason why Vista support means they've had to include extra software code in Chrome.
But it's still not very nice behaviour by Google to terminate support a year before the operating system itself goes out of support.0 -

It's different for users of Windows 7 or 8.x who can upgrade for free.0 -
How can disable Chrome update? I can’t the option of Chrome settings.
Also I am running Vista Home too, where can I get upgrade from Vista to Win7 (I wish to keep the present programs I have installed - I do not want clean install).
Many retailers not have Win7, and online shops?

Google Chrome support ceases in April 2016. From then I'm going to start using Firefox as my browser (not a big fan of Internet Explorer).
I've had my computer since 2009, and it works perfectly for my needs. That said, it has a wonky ethernet connection (previously soldered on) which led to me buying and using a ethernet adaptor involving internet access by the USB/Ethernet adaptor route.
By next year when Microsoft support/updates for Vista ends my computer will be eight years old so perhaps that will be the time to replace it.
I'd prefer not to though, if it still accommodates my simple internet needs.0 -
If you must use an outdated OS (for whatever reason) then it would seem the best course of action would be to install a fully supported browser like Firefox and be done with it.
You can import your bookmarks from chrome and most of the add-ons are available in FF.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you
