Just wondered given the above how much longer FF will support XP

How about trying Linux,Ive tried Puppy Linux ...........a bit !
Wouldn't want to give up the time messing about with Linux. sign0015.gif.
Firefox is open source so will probably be supported for a while longer than the others.....

In the last year I've replaced Vista on two aging machines with Linux Mint. I'm totally delighted with the result. Mint is solid, does exactly what you want and, just as important doesn't do what you don't want. No unwanted ads, no anti virus, no waking up in the middle of the night to perform obscure maintenance tasks, no phoning home, no nags, no forced upgrades. When my W7 and 8.1 machines go out of support, I know what OS they'll be getting.

Both Vista machines were running 32-bit Windows and are now happily on 64-bit Linux. Chromium runs on both and has no ongoing support issues. Chrome would also run but why should I willingly contribute more than necessary to Google's consumer database?

My short trial was with Puppy, ofcourse I was a bit like a Monkey trying to drive a car,but at least I managed to get the doors open:D

I realise chrome updates wouldn't be available after April 2016 (Vista), but would the chrome browser still run?

Sorry, I know this is a silly question.

It looks like I may need to upgrade my computer or OS and this takes ages in days!

    Thanks

I don't think it's a silly question at all, I was wondering that myself. Also I'm a bit peeved at the prospect of having to change to a different OS next year because Microsoft will be ceasing support for Vista.
  • I'm on Vista too, not so much bothered about Chrome as I usually use Firefox.

I've realised I will have to upgrade my operating system anyway next year, and I also don't want a clean install if possible.

I've ordered a Win 7 "reconditioned" disc and licence from an Amazon seller in Germany. I believe this is from a computer which has been reconditioned, and a newer OS installed on it, making the Win 7 disc usable on a different computer.. It was £35.

Assuming all goes well with the upgrade from Vista to Win 7, I will be able to further upgrade to Win 10 for free until July this year.

There's no updates for XP any more, but my two machines are still running.
