It must have been a very slow day at the nick for two coppers to turn up to a parked car; are you sure it wan't just ha'pennies( PCSOs).

Outside of London, and some other places with local bye-laws, it's not illegal to park with 2 wheels on pavement and on many narrow housing-estate roads it's probably more courteous than blocking the road.

It is if you're causing an obstruction.
  • My partner is disabled. she now is stuck to either a wheelchair or a mobility scooter. All the time we are getting ignorant idiot car drivers parking on the kerb without leaving at least enough room for a mobility scooter to pass. The OP can get a parking ticket just having two wheels mounting the kerb if its obstructing the pavement enough. Please just park leaving enough room for us to pass. Getting past this car is a hard thing meaning we have to backtrack to find a slope down to the road.
Heres a little tip. you can park in front of their drive ! its the law, but only if there isnt a car in the drive or in the garage. You cannot block their access to drive out of their drive but you certainly can block their ingress back in again.Google that if you dont believe me. Its to stop the householder laying claim to that bit of the queens highway in front of their drive.

    Hi all,
in a bit of an odd situation.

The other day I had a knock at my door which turned out to be two police officers, long story short they asked me to move my car because my neighbour kept asking and I was refusing.
my car is not in the way of her drive and does not affect her at all, there is just somewhat of a "family feud" between the two households.

anyway, out of spite she has started to park on the curb and even lets guests that come to her house do so to.

Now, I don't want this to turn into a "he said she said" type of thing and waste the police's time however this is taking the P**S, is there anything that I can do legally?
I have some pictures of them parking on the curb after calling the police if that's any use.

What did she tell the Police in order to pique their interest?
Is there a trail of other incidents the police are aware of?
You haven't told us what the police said as to why you should stop doing it?

How would you know if a car was in the garage?

    If you say so.

If there is a garage, and its shut you cannot assume that there is nt a car in there so you cannot block the access out, so you can t park there. If you can see the drive is empty and the garage is empty then you can park in front of the driveway. That is the law. Its a fallacy about parking in front of someones drive being illegal. That occupier cannot lay claim to the queens highway if there is no car in the drive. It will lead to arguments but that is the law.

. Why would nt it make sense. Why should a householder lay claim to a piece of highway for ingress to his property. He does nt own the highway. The law is there to allow the occupier to make an emergency exit in his car. If he returns and cannot drive his car up his drive then he can park on the road alongside until its clear. This law should be made more well known. My Daughter has lots of trouble from a neighbour who never parks in her property but lays claim to the highway adjacent to the entry, not even on a dropped kerb.. Its a form of land grabbing.
