We have the lady's full attention ...... :)
Hi J B, thanks for that, very helpful. What's the "mesh thingy" on the grill...?
The grilling rack, sorry, not good with terminology!!! :D

I understand that the main oven can be used as a grill with fan - is this correct? Or maybe that's just on the Classic delux.
Correct, although it seems to grill just around the edges, not the middle!

And you didn't mention the induction hob - would your wife recommend that over ceramic? Worth an extra £200?
    No.
We wonder if it would be better with 'better quality' saucepans, but not sure.

Frequent movers and serial renovators which allows us to earn tax-free cash to live on,we are on our 4th Rangemaster 900 Classic which says it all.Only suggestion I would make is to ensure you get fully enamelled top plates as the usual rough cast finish is impossible to clean. I also note that Rangemaster ,for some unknown reason, are making the top plate now come right over the front.Very heavy and difficult to lift out for cleaning. We insisted on the black enamelled drop in top plates on our new cooker delivered 2 weeks ago and it is worth specifying the exact details in your order.
  • I can't comment on your choice of cooker but the difference between ceramic and induction is very significant. The induction rings are very quick to control but you need specific steel based pans. Our cookware is several years old and shows little signs of wear, even though they are often washed in the dishwasher.

As others have said, dont expect to get anything decent range cookers for below £3-4k.

I see your reasons for the cooker but my suggestion would be to consider Leisure which looks very similar to Rangemaster, only cheaper and similar on performance.

I would say (imo and from the comments above),that rather than getting a range oven, an integrated oven (or 2), integrated microwave, and induction hob will serve you better, will look better, and will probably be cheaper, too.
  • My limited experience of Rangemaster cookers is that which my mum bought about 15 years ago now (couldn't tell you the model): poor build quality, not a great oven or hob, just a mediocre product dressed up to look like an old-fashioned range-cooker. I wouldn't get one.

We've a rangemaster. Two gas ovens (neither with fan), five gas rings & electric coffee plate.

It's a bit of a chore to keep clean as the trim can't half catch anything that drips or spills, over several years the piezo ignition has gone on some rings & of course the coloured trim bits on the burners have corroded - if we'd jumped on that earlier we could have bought "a refurb pack" of the decorative bits that burn & don't scrub well but they stopped producing them & sorting individual item numbers (all 5 different sizes) then paying the steep P&P? Hm.

Thing is, now the kitchen is built around it, we're going to have to be awkward about sizing for any replacement & with three teens we can't afford a Nice range cooker (that sort of money goes on a replacement car).

With hindsight, we were mugs. However we were mugs with three toddlers in hand & it was himself's pride & joy for some time before age & reality began to really bite.

If you enjoy cooking, put the money towards good kit well set out & easy to keep clean & maintained. If you need it to look pretty, & attract a buyer - well, so long as they don't know much about range cookers, you should be OK.

I agree. I'm getting a new kitchen atm and am having two Siemens integrated ovens (one with microwave), a warming drawer and a six burner gas hob for about the price of the OPs range cooker.

Not really got an opinion about the Rangemaster but would definitely go for an induction hob.
