Buyer claiming non-receipt of a mobile

I take it you have, in writing, evidence from the manufacturer that the serial number of the phone you sold (and were told did not arrive) has been recently (i.e. since you sent it to the buyer) been used with a sim which has the phone number that your "buyer" is now using. If you don't have this is writing, I suggest you get it in writing.
I did originally think something along those lines but even if manufacturers had access to that information, they wouldn't be able to disclose it to the OP, only the police. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Yes you are correct, I explained the situation to Motorola and she did give across the number. She said explained it's personal data and really should not give it out.
I have been quite lucky here and from now on will be using Tracking for more valuable items.0 -

Thanks for the update. You say "I have been quite lucky here". Does that mean you have received a satisfactory outcome?0 -
Well I really can't imagine the buyer pushing me for a refund now I know the facts. I trust Amazon will do the correct thing regarding this matter now.0

If your buyer attempted a fraud, claiming they haven't received the goods when they have, involve the police for sure.
I am glad you found a way to prove they were lying!0 -

Perhaps you should follow up with a short note to the buyer also. That upon him providing his number, you notice its the same number the manufacturer have confirmed as being in use with the telephone and that due to this, you will not be actioning a refund and if he's lucky, the police won't prosecute him for fraud. You keep using that word. Yes I can only thank Motorola.
Either way the buyer would not have won, I would have blocked the phone should I had to refund - leaving him without a phone.
I have definitely learnt my lesson I will be using tracking in the future.0 -

Have you taken any action yet or are you still waiting for an Amazon response?
Who knows how many unsuspecting sellers this idiot has tricked in the past?
At this point there is little point in calling the buyers bluff - I'd simply just tell them how it is straight up with a message similar to below (feel free to use/edit as you see fit).Dear Buyer,
It has come to my attention from dealings with various sources that the phone number used to activate the phone (since it was wiped and sent to you) is the exact same number you have provided me on the claims form - what a strange coincidence?
Cutting straight to the point; I have fairly solid evidence that you yourself have activated the phone which you claimed to be lost, this is known as "deception".
I am offering you a chance now to revoke your refund request with Amazon and put this to bed without any further action. If you insist you have not received the phone (which by the way would be rather stupid) then I have no choice but to provide the evidence to both Amazon and the police as this is clear cut fraud and deception.
I also won't hesitate to post this story, along with your full address to warn other sellers of your behaviour.
Shall we end this now or would you like to continue onto being publicly shamed and receive visit from the police?
Yours,
The person you failed to rip-off0 -
But why wouldn't the op have just informed Amazon and the police in the first place?0
