  • Question - how do I get this thread over to debt diaries. Think I will do that as it is going to be great recording this journey. Hope it's not lonely though on there. I've so loved the support on here and don't want to lose that.

You are best off just starting a new thread over there. You can call it whatever you like then. You can put a link to this thread in your first post if you like.

PM a board guide to move it for you. Their names, with links, are at the bottom of the first page of DebtFreeWannabe.

Here they are: nearlyrich, fermi, Finishrich, Nile.

I've been following your thread without posting, because I had nothing useful to add. You're doing a brilliant job, in a really short time! :T

ETA: if needed, you can also change the title of your thread by going to your first post in this thread, clicking 'edit' then 'advanced', then typing your new title in the box at the top.

Great to see your enthusiasm and we are all spurring you on so I am sure we will all find your diary. Hope the ironing pile is not too daunting. I do my small amount for just two of us while watching tv too. Of course ironing for 6 (I am assuming you don't iron the 1 year old's clothes ;)) may take a little longer.

    Ironing not keen

My OH is an iron as she goes I like to have my stuff I use for special done and ready, everyday is different it gets left till it builds up.

What I do is pick something to watch on tv that needs medium attention films can be good and do an hour or two usually first thing(6am).

This week was my long sleeve winter shirts and a quick wizz over jeans, if going out with fleece the tshirt picked for under not ironed.

It's quite easy to get the list of things that need doing shorter hanging does wonders a lot of the time.

I agree with hubby once you start earning £60 hour then consider time management and paying people to do stuff at a lower rate, even then some things are therapeutic distractions.
  • I haven't posted on MSE in a long time - but I like to look. Your post really inspired me! You've taken onboard all the advice and are clearly determined to make changes. One thing that occurred to me . . . . would your refund from the energy company buy the car you need? Or put you in a position where you get a lease contract? Oh and if you can switch energy companies, consider using the club on here. Last time i switched they got me a better tariff with my existing supplier and gave me £30 to boot!

Our local dry cleaner does five cotton shirts for something like £7.50. Perhaps you could do this for your husband's shirts, to start with..... after you have let the ironer go. Can he take them and collect? I'm a press-straight-out-the-wash girl too and then hang up to dry. If you can time the wash to end when Little One goes for a nap, half an hour should crack it. Do your older ones wear polos or proper shirts? Polos can be hung up straight out the wash and press the shirts.
  • Thanks Katiepoppy. I thought just like you that the credit on the fuel could go towards the car. They said we were in credit by £1100 and could I get the readings. Too right I could. A grand!!!! Rang today and they said they hadn't charged us for six months and would I wait whilst they put the readings in. Came back and said we now have £6 due back. Was really disappointed. It's strange though as they have put us down from £200 to £170 for gas and elec and said it is enough to not go into arrears. And yet we've paid £1100 for a few months. I can only assume it was partially arrears.

Anyway, I'm upstairs waiting for the bath to run. Took my escape as I was so frustrated and upset. Husband has just walked in with seven bags from sainsburys and there's not even many meals in there. Bill was £105. Things like dishwasher tablets £8, tomatoes £3, bag is jacket potatoes £4!!!! I could cry!!! I tried to point out how much he had spent with no meals really and he said he wasn't interested and could we talk about agriculture instead as that is far more interesting. So I've retreated to upstairs. Not fair on the children to get cross.

Just so frustrated as I've worked so hard this week. In just two days I have:

    - reduced water bill
    - reduced elec and gas bill
    - cancelled usual shopping trip with friends
    - cancelled the Ironer ok - Ironer cancelled me
    - planned with a friend to share our cleaner so she only comes once a fortnight although intending to cancel
    - reduced medical ins from £600 to £300 although summoning up courage to cancel (it's a tough one for me - long story)
    - cancelled two clubs
    - told the children next parties will be sleepovers
    - started looking for a car
    - changed my phone bundle
    - started drinking tap water (have refused to so this for 20 years - I know, I know.
    - got my head around not booking a holiday which we are usually busy doing at this time of year (although still hoping to get to Majorca on flight points)
    - joined MSE : ))))
    - sat up until 2am last night working on website

I know I still have to do so much more but seeing husband walk in with so much food makes me want to cry : (((. No plastic cups though. And there were a few reduced items in there which I have never seen before.

Jumping in the bath with a Lush bath bomb. That's going to be an old guilty pleasure soon.
  • Oh bless you, don't lose heart ,he just isn't on the same page as you just yet. Might even be feeling a little defiant towards you?

You just keep on doing what you are doing, which is fantastic!

Go through those bags, make a meal plan incorporating everything you can with what's there and in the cupboards/freezer, then you might be able to miss a couple of shopping trips you would usually do? (or does he do all of the grocery shops?)

    best wishes to you :)

I will probably get slated , but I don't think you have had your light bulb moment. You talk about setting up your business and huge earning potential but you can't even tackle your ironing and cleaning ! I am a business owner so know how much work that involves and I had 4 children before anyone else says anything.
It's not aboutbwhat you earn , its about what you spend .You are 1 missed payday away from losing everything
Vuja De - the feeling you'll be here later
  • Peliricco - point taken. Perhaps I haven't. I am spending the whole day thinking about what we can do to reduce our debts. You're quite right and it's going to be tough to get working if I can't even do my own ironing and cleaning. I do keep thinking I'll get cracking today and then I'm so tired at night little gets done. I do feel really fired up to get earning though and worked til early hours to get started. But I did think earlier if I am finding it hard to do my ironing how am I going to be able to sustain working. I just need to work harder. And be more productive. If I'm still saying the same thing in one month's time I will raise my glass to you and say you were absolutely right. Thanks for your perspective. I need all angles, not just the pat on the back posts (although they are great too : ))
