my brother actually has a debt with orange for taking out a contract phone (like a plonker). orange have passed the debt to bcw who are now chasing for payment of the full 18 month contract (although the phone is not out of its 18 month contract).
as we do genuinely know that there is an outstanding debt, we responded to these people and have so far only paid £40.
i was just about to make another payment and searched for their company website when this forum popped up.
can anyone now advide where we stand and whether further payments should be made to them or orange etc.
my brother is now unemployed and cannot pay the £800+ they are requesting.
ooohhh help as we are getting the phonecalls from them as well as the 'we will send an agent to ur property' letters.
many thanks0 -

Don't speak to them on the phone. If they call, hang up, or just keep saying 'only in writing'.
If they turn up at the door, tell them to sling their hook.
If you're still paying Orange, then continue to do so, and ignore BC&W.0 -
Hi,
I recieved a letter from BCW stating that they will be arresting my bank account for council tax arrears and have said my local council has agreed to this. I am a bit concerned about this and wondering if they can actually do this???
Hi.
It would be better if you had your own thread to deal with this.
I'll move your posts into one and be back with a link.

I'm really glad I searched for this company before responding, especially as I am a regular MSE reader. This evening I got home to an answerphone message asking me to contact "a company called Buchanan Clark & Wells" regarding a meter reading (they don't say which meter) for my mother. How the hell they got MY phone number (which is ex-directory) I don't know, but my mother has dementia and is having trouble with bills (which my brother and I are in the middle of getting sorted out now) so I assumed it was legitimate and was about to call them back. I'm now primed ready to be very nasty to them tomorrow! :mad:0

I received one of those automated call back phone calls from this horrible company. As soon as I heard that i needed to call back an 084 number I hung up. They rang this morning to ask for my partner who was at work so they wanted an alternate number for him but I said I would take a message. The very rude woman give me a phone number but I said they may ring him as we are not ringing 084 numbers. She said the number was lo-call (which I don't care as we won't be ringing them) and gave me a reference number.
I asked her was this about a bank debt and she said yes, so I told her that the debt was belonging to my partners ex wife, but would this rude woman listen, no, she hung up after I told her the debt wasn't his and that I wouldn't be passing on the message. She said do what you want so I replied do you want his ex wife's addre (not a typo error as that's as far as I got), and she hung up. Well I thought you're dealing with the wrong person. I wrote a very strong email on my partners behalf (I pretended to be my him) to say not harass me again as the debt was not mine but my ex wife's so why don't they earn the money they're getting paid and go to the court and look at the court records to prove this debt was hers and if they felt the need to take me to court I would be suing for loss of earning etc. I also included my partners solicitors details for them to contact her.
Why should we do these pariahs jobs for them, make it as difficult as possible. I'm just waiting on them ringing again so I can have the pleasure of hanging up on them0 -
1. DO NOT ever phone them!!-Will get you nowhere..
2. ALWAYS send letters via RECORDED DELIVERY!
3.IF they keep harrassing you, include in your letter that you'll have no choice but to seek legal action against them for harrassment and they should consider this as a FORMAL WARNING!-(Worked for me!)
4. NEVER ignore their letters cos they'll keep coming!

Hi,
I know this is a long shot as it's an old thread but I have received 2 separate answerphone messages from Buchanan Clark & wells. They quote a reference number but it's still a recorded message. We have no outstanding payments anything we owe so I am a bit concerned.
Any ideas if this is a scam? Or should we risk contacting them?
Cheers
SLC. X0
