I am on satellite broadband I have only a 10gb monthly allowance
I know somebody that had a similar problem; we managed to prove that data was used with NO computers connected to the modem/router AND wifi off. The ISP insisted that it wasn't their fault and "it's how the internet works"; we told them we'd change ISP and the problem went away (I think they changed the external IP address which had been static).

Afraid not, once had a friend's laptop which was playing up, and had over 6000 threats. I just remember being totally gobsmacked at the time.
  • Can we take it then that the anti-virus/internet security suite installed on the computer does not work......

Nope. I've just fixed my idiot brother in law's laptop and it was 5600ish. He's only had it since Xmas, I set it up for him on Boxing day and told him not to begger about with it.

But no. He decided to install Chrome, just to try it, and didn't have any ad blockers and something happened to malware bytes, he has no idea what and it.......well you get the picture.
One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.
  • I'm running the free version of avast for the last year and a bit and adblock plus, had Norton for the years before that, along with the usual microsoft stuff. The computer is probably about 8 years old. Malwarebytes seems to be picking up 100 threats a day.
