Snoring - The couple killer!

Comments

  • I normally sleep downstairs on a mattress her upstairs so no real issue but were off on a family holiday soon which means there's no escape for her or the kids.

I seem to snore for months then fine for a month or two then it starts again. No real pattern

I always sleep on me arm sideways with a pillow between arm and head. Don't drink so that's not the issue

I seem to be a nose snorer according to the test but strips didn't really help.

Maybe it's cause I don't enjoy going to bed early and only need about 6 hours kip?

buy some foam earplugs for all of you for the holiday - i bought a pile of them from amazon a couple of years ago for the same purpose, i still have some of them and always pack a few when we're all going to be in the same room on holiday.

My o.h used to snore terribly, he also got bout after bout of tonsililtus. As soon as he had the tonsils whipped out the snoring stopped. Anecdotal but it may be of some help.

Husband used to snore, to the point it sounded like sleep apnea to me. He went to the GP & was referred to ENT. It was diagnosed as perennial rhinitis & he now takes beconase nose spray twice a day. He rarely snores now & if he does it usually due to alcohol, too much rich food especially cheese, or a cold, or the sheets need changing!

My sister has just had an op on her deviated septum & it's made a lot of difference. So definitely go ask to be referred.

    I just use these:

You can get them in most stores - Tesco's definitely sell them. And they dull out the sound enough for me to drift off and stay asleep.

My partner tried all sorts of nose strips, sprays etc. On the NHS, he had a special mouth guard to pull his lower jaw forward and 3 different surgeries. One to shorten his palette, another to sort his deviated septum, another to reduce his turbinates. None of this stopped his snoring.

Eventually, after a lot of research, we went to see a private respiratory specialist and asked about a cpap machine (generally used only for sleep apnea in the UK). It's been like a miracle cure. He hasn't snored at all from the first night he got it. It's been about 2 and a half years now.

Have you seen an ENT and been checked for LPR (Laryngopharyngeal Reflux)?
