Cockroaches Still here.

Considering the OP has been very fortunate to be offered a two bed property and not a room I'd say that this would be a bad idea.0 -
I'd get back onto the council, you should have to live with a cockroach infestation even if it is emergency accommodation. They're horrible things!
What are your neighbours like? Would they agree to ask for their properties to be treated too?0 -
Apologies for the delay in replying.
I have been told the previous tenants were erm not nice.., drinkers/drug addicts and judging by the amount of debt company letters I am getting addressed to slight changes of the same name.., I suspect what I have been told is true. I'm making a list and then will send each company the list with the unopened letters. Eastern European name which makes me a little mad (sorry but if you could see this place you'd understand).
I'm in the end maisonette so only one neighbour who I haven't seen yet (and another one upstairs). There is a nice lady two doors down who seemed suprised. I was lucky to get this place.., had to fight for other than a single room cause of the kids special needs. I've managed to get the council to let us have our dog here and credit meters, I don't want to push any further.
I guess I'll just have to keep calling the pesticide guy back. I'm not blocking up plug holes lol. Do keep the kitchen dry and clean as humanely possible. Nothing's left on work surfaces. This bout of asthma is taking some getting over. I'm on my own with my two boys, which is fine..,just means I'm being pulled at both ends and not easy when you're feeling this bad (really rare I'm out of action like this). I can't just leave cockroaches when I see them so I use pesticides and that seems to make my asthma worse. Don't know that the gel bait is as good as you're told (its supposed to be so tasty entire families come for a meal).
I found a cockroach in my freshly made coffee last night (was distracted by dealing with my son who was a bit in need). That wasn't pleasant. God knows how it managed to jump in. The pot of coffee was thrown out, just in case.
I'll have a look at the home made trap. Somehow cockroaches make me scream. Three screams last night when I was cleaning up lol.0 -
I agree you shouldn't have to live in these conditions - I'd keep calling the pesticide guy out and keep complaining0

I don't agree, a safe clean room would be betterBlackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0 -
Not when you have two autistic sons it isn't. Honestly.0

Unfortunately, it seems that the reason why you were 'lucky enough' to get the property has become clear :eek:0

Not for three adults - two of whom have special needs. It is a ridiculous suggestion. Not to mention the stress and expense of another move! Far better that the authorities actually cure the cockroach infestation in the maisonette. The OP should not feel that she cannot complain about the roaches.0 -
Thank you for the home made bait traps videos.., I've made up a few and will do more as suitable receptacles become available. Have to say we have smaller critters (thank goodness). Might give me an idea where they are coming from too so can concentrate on a particular area re prevention (although I do realise they could be coming from everywhere).
I have two children 9 and 20.., but still have their needs and I'd go stir crazy trying to meet their differing needs for noise/quiet in a single room. Its actually difficult enough with two bedrooms. I'm not sleeping because my coughing (asthma) is keeping the younger one awake and the older one has gotten stressed just now. He went to bed early but is now awake and worrying in the illogical way people with ASD do, so its difficult to calm them down. He's worrying about us losing this accommodation now, inspite of my explanations as to how we won't. The long homelessness process unfortunately leaves its mark. Me not being well really hasn't helped, I don't normally let them see me unwell, even when they had swine flu.., I had it too (worse really because of the asthma, could barely breathe) but just carried on otherwise they get worried.
I seriously could not cope with packing up again and keeping them calm during the move again. We are near my younger son's school, its not a good area but not too bad, its big enough for them to be able to use their pc's and close enough to what they are familiar with for it to not be too big a change for them. So I don't want to move unless there was serious risk to health.
Thanks to those videos, I may well have a way of sorting this problem out without using sprays and without moving.0 -
I am not familiar with pesticide, but is it possible to put some around the OUTSIDE of the property as well? That hopefully will help and not agitate your asthma.
If there are holes around/within the property, try some steel wool scourers (with gel?) to keep them at bay. They are relatively cheap and you may be able to see if these are the points of entry for future treatment from the exterminator.
I am so cross that the council feel this is an acceptable place to house your family - as a parent and/or as a tax payer.
