    I am in the minority - I can't stand Enid Blyton:eek::p

As a child I loved the chalet school books

    But others I liked were
The Weirdstone of Brisingamen by Alan Garner
    The viaduct by Roy Brown
Knights of the Cardboard Castle by Elizabeth Beresford

Now, I love the Harry Potter books and Michael Morpurgo

I loved the Mallory Towers series, The Faraway Tree and Matilda.
  • The ones my children loved were Dogger by Shirley Hughes for little ones and anything by Michelle Magorian for older ones.
For myself as a child, Orlando the Marmalade Cat by Kathleen Hale, Ann of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery when I was older.

For older children, Judith Kerr's trilogy

    When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit
    Bombs on Aunt Dainty
    A Small Person Far Away

I read them all as an adult, and enjoyed them, but I think they are intended for children :)

  • The BFG (short for "Big Friendly Giant") is a 1982 children's book written by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake.
  • Little lady's favourite for the past year has been 'Stick Man' I don't even need to look at the book as I know it by heart!

The Weirdstone of Brisingamen by Alan Garner

My mum refused to read any Enid Blyton books to us when we were little as she didn't rate them at all - I've never read any myself since either, I don't feel I've missed out.

I'm with you on the Weirdstone and The Moon of Gomrath and Elidor. My boys all enjoyed me reading those to them too and the youngest used the Weirdstone as a basis for a project he did at Art College.

    Matilda!!

Generally anything by Roald Dahl but Matlida has always been my favourite book.

Also have a soft spot for The BFG, Danny the Champion of the World, Witches and Boy.
