No question, 'the very hungry caterpillar'. I loved reading it aloud. You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.0

My nan bought me beautiful copies of the secret garden and black beauty. I still have them now and have loved sharing them with my children, nieces and nephews. I also had the most beautifully illustrated book all about fairies which I have many fond memories of reading. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0

We are reading Enid Blyton at the mo - faraway tree series. I loved them as a child and read them many times. My son loves them too. He's 6 so he reads 2-3 pages to me, then I take over
reading is tiring when you're little
I also loved Alice in WonderlandBossymoo

My own favourites when young:
Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass
The Just William books by Richmal Crompton (I still find the author's dry humour and deadpan style very funny)
The Abbey Girls school story series by Elsie J. Oxenham
Poetry as well as story-books, especially
The Lady of Shalott (Tennyson) and
Lochinvar (Scott), which seemed to me utterly romantic
Ones I loved reading to my children:
Five Minutes' Peace (and others in the same series) by Jill Murphy
Mog the Forgetful Cat (and sequels) by Judith Kerr
Peepo by the Ahlbergs (loved the illustrations especially)Life is mainly froth and bubble
