At around £60, within the OP's current budget.
Buying crud on credit with a twelve month warranty isn't the greatest moneysaving idea I've ever seen.
Buying cheap will give the OP more time to figure out what they did with the ACER.
Well if we look at that deal a bit harder,
No webcam (do they want one ?)
2gb RAM
Cracked case
No OS (yes I know)
No DVD (do they want one ?)
Delivery £10
How much mileage left in the battery, keyboard and clickpad ?
It's all adding up. Total £70.74
I think the OP has learned their lesson with the ACER.
If the OP wishes to buy new but pay later, then I'm merely pointing out their lower cost options to do so. How do they want to cut their cloth ?

My point is not to not buy new, but not to buy crud with a twelve month warranty. Is the OP not eligible for a credit card?0 -

mmmh just seen this
what does "buy crud" mean? Googled around but I found nothing (I'm Italian so English not mother tongue)...
I do have a credit card, the Barclaycard Initial, but if I have to use it to buy the lappy then pay back interest, isn't it the same (or more expensive) than paying Currys or Very by installments?0 -

If any other options spring to mind, please share. Appreciated :T0 -

By applying for a CC with a 0% interest free period. Then you are free to buy a decent laptop at the same price as the... laptop from Currys. The problem is that you are paying out, but not really getting the best for your money. For instance, your ACER was from the former eMachines range. A budget range with perhaps not the best quality of build.
Better to buy a sturdier machine in the first place or at least one with an extended warranty, so we don't have another thread from you like this in eighteen months.0 -

which one would you recommend then? because the one you recommended earlier seem to have lower specs than the Acer Aspire (2gb RAM VS 4 of the Acer etc)0 -
