I would second the travelodge in Lytham St Annes, even if she doesn't have a car. St Annes train station is a 10 min walk away but even if she got the train to Blackpool and then a taxi it wouldn't cost the earth.

We've stopped at this travelodge several times and always take the bus into Blackpool, we never use the car. We usually stay here one night with the kids for the illuminations, and have stayed a couple of times as a couple when going to a concert in Blackpool.

You can buy a daily / weekly bus pass and it takes 15 mins on the b us to Pleasure Beach. If it was considerably cheaper than the Blackpool one I would say go for it as it's much much nicer, and in a better area. They don't do breakfast but there are loads of cafes nearby as well as a wetherspoons and a toby carvery breakfast buffet on the seafront.

  • I work in Blackpool and, personally, I'd avoid all of the small B&Bs. Many are overrun with stag/hen parties and even if the one you're going to isn't, next door might be. I'd be heading straight for the Travelodge near to the Football stadium. 5 mins walk to the front and from there you've got the tram to visit the tower at one end and the pleasure beach at the other. I've stayed there many times with work and it's generally clean, cheap and the breakfast is good. They do family rooms too.

Don't forget, if you've got clubcard vouchers, then they'll pay for the pleasure beach, tower, dungeons, sea life centre and the zoo!

We go there quite a lot and have now settled with staying at the hilbre hotel (b&b). EXTREMELY friendly family owners with the most amazing breakfast. A bit more pricey than most but worth it imo.

    They are very family friendly.

I know it's slightly off topic but I noted you are going to Blackpool in early August and planning to go to Pleasure Beach as something to do - when in early August are you going? I am asking as Blackpool Air show is on Monday 8 August and the previous day, it's free and seems to appeal to all age groups.
