Thursday 21st January - What small DFW things will you do today?

Hello all,
Oooooh, it's a proper cold day today. Minus 5 overnight according to mr f & I can believe it. Garden was solid white with frost, birdbath & pond frozen & I haven't really warmed up yet! Admittedly I am one proper Mrs Stingypants with the heating! Today's small frugal things:
*Only ironed the things which really needed it....which turned out to be 4 garments. Result!
*Mashed cat's spurned tea from last night with a small amount of new food to con him into eating it.
*Caught up with a few surveys. Need to get back in the habit of doing this as earned over £300 last year from this. Not too far off a cash-in from Toluna so must keep going.
*Labelled all the jars of marmalade I made yesterday. Noticed in village farm shop this morning that they are selling marmalade oranges for 66p a kilo. That's an excellent price. Tempted to make another batch, as useful for gifts. I have a couple of spare lemons so would only need 2 bags of Aldi sugar @ 49p a bag. That's less than a £2 spend to make about 8 jars, & it's good stuff too.
*Dinner will be the spicy chickpea burgers I made yesterday, in home-made bread rolls with salad. Will shiver my way down to the greenhouse later to cut the last of the autumn sown lettuce.
*Knit. I frogged my knitting last night, as there was an error in it I just couldn't find. Decided you'd need to be a Bletchley Park coder to spot it (or Ally D). Easy spiral lace pattern. Correct no of stitches. Very easy to see if any error had been made. Nothing visibly wrong with pattern at all, yet unable to knit a particular row without sending one piece of pattern haywire. Tried 5 times. Had impressive tantrum, then frogged it. Cast on a different style. Will get my needles clacking later & make up for lost time. Want to wear them. Gorgeous yarn (a gift).
*Paid 2 x 50ps into my sealed pot.
*Rounded up a purseful of coppers for change pot.
*Not an NSD as had to buy potatoes but everything else will last until next grocery shop.
*Did meal plans for next week. £36 budget left but lots of food in freezer.
*Posted ebay package. Also replied to potential buyer about another item. have a few more watchers.
*Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Progress big task from my Annoying Things List & maybe a little task too.
OK, that will have to do, partly because I need to go & put the kettle on to top up my caffiene levels & partly because I have to go & read the riot act to cat who is messing about on the landing & I can just hear that he is up to no good.

Hey everybody

Today started well - got rubbish for a bit - then got better again.
I am tired though and I've noticed that I'm a bit grumpy and stressy. Definitely work doing that though. It's freezing here tonight - I have the heating on, my fleecy pj's, my fleecy poncho and I still can't feel my fingers.
Work is hard at the moment, and the 3 of us that are still in at the department are all feeling it. My head of department who is so unflappable normally is now grumpy and stressed, which means things are bad. He's talking about looking for another job.crazy_cat_lady wrote: »

So today has been a bit spendy. However, I've tried to be carefully spendy if you know what I mean, though all from Birthday entertainment budget.
* Booked two tickets for Cirque Berserk (Link) at the Theatre in Glasgow through Quidco for Saturday. I didn't realise til recently that you can get money back on some shows through Ticketmaster and ATG Theatres. Bought the cheapest seats at £17.50 each at the back of the Stalls which were the same price as up in the 'gods'. Will get about 80p back from Quidco.
* Looked at transport into the city. Driving and public transport costs about the same so I think we'll get the train from our village. Checked out getting tickets in advance through Trainline and Quidco but there's no point...the 70p admin fee for booking online would be only partially refunded so it's cheaper to just turn up and ride as we normally do. £7.70 each. Train was cheap than bus.
* Will take snacks and alcohol in with us.
* Will eat at home rather than in the city.
* Then tomorrow we are going out for lunch to favourite independent local restaurant. Portions are huge so there'll be no need for breakfast. Will just have one course. This is a big change from the Old Me who almost single-handedly kept local eateries alive with dining out. Will park in free car park and walk down. Probably won't need much for dinner in the evening.
*Then Sunday OH managed to get a cheap four-bird roast. We had one at Decemberfest and it was awesome. This one was bought at a discount in the January Sales. This'll feed us for days.
* Declined invitation to go out with workies. It'd be expensive.
Followed up spending with a cherry brandy at home and a long sleep on the sofa before I spent any more!

Morning all, quick post from me as running late, but 1 minute on here won't make any difference to that :rotfl:
My list:
Check banking, should see DH wages for tomorrow, hopefully they will have missing ot in
Check surveys
Check £co
Meals from stores/planner
Out with friend tonight, we go to cheap place and buy one drink for both of us. Mine is normally the hot drink round at about 9.30. You can see how rock and roll that is :rotfl: and about 4 times a year is not an extravagance in the big scheme of things
Hope commute is kind
Ring energy co, no hot water again this morning :eek:Had to do the heating on/off jiggle and reset boiler to get it back on. Finally time to call them and pay the call out fee (we have a plan for parts and labour but it's a reduced price as have a call out fee)
Think that's about all, will try and check back later

Hello Pippy - lovely to see you
I've done everything on my list apart from call the energy co, that will have to be carried over to tomorrow. Rubbish day at work, have felt my stress/anxiety levels rising as the day went on, resulting in me coming home grumpy which I hate. On a positive note, DH O/T is showing as pending and it's more than I'd hoped/planned - know exactly where that is going
Have done some work tonight as didn't go out as my friend was poorly, so a) I didn't spend anything :j and b) I did manage to get some work done, which at least makes me feel like I'm not sinking (quite as much) as I was earlier
I also got paid by 1 customer and she gave me an order for another customer (that she had recommended me to) :j
See you tomorrow0
