i've had a BFR card with a balance transfer deal on it for the past couple of years, and recently started using it as an Amex backup as there has been a purchases deal on it too..
i've generated 1,324 FR points, and have just seen that i need 1,750 for a £5 voucher_party_
has anyone understood/calculated the 'rate' if it were equivalent to cashback?
now the card is clear i am thinking i might try to get them to change my account into the Amex/Visa Cashback account.. would the 0.5% on the Visa card be more cash generative that BFR?

I think it earns 1 point per £1 spent and 2 points per £1 spent on a few bonus categories.
At the standard rate it works out at less than 0.3% "cashback" so I'd definitely dump it.0 -
thank you Olly
has the rate been discussed here at MSE?
anyone see any reason for retaining Freedom Rewards as a spending card? or as a future balance transfer card?
i have a good limit on the account, so at some stage i will fancy moving debt back to Barclaycard:)0 -
any reason why the Cashback card is less likely to have repeat BT deals offered, rather than Freedom Rewards, or perhaps Platinum cards?0
-
and has anyone managed to get them to morph a Barclaycard into a HHonors card, now that they are held within the Barclaycard platform?0

Hi Planteria,
I upped from Freedom to CB in November and still get letters/emails offering BTs/MTs on these cards so I don't think the card type has much bearing on Barclaycard's likelihood of offering them.
Cheers

thanks derelyth, that is useful feedback.
and thanks Candyapple.. yes, remember that thread now.
i am thinking i will be speaking to Barclaycard to see what the options are, but guessing that Cashback will be an option whilst HHonors will not.0 -
Everything is defined here (near bottom of page):
http://www.barclaycard.co.uk/freedomrewards/how-freedom-rewards-work.html
Basically 2 points per £1 for supermarkets, petrol and TFL; otherwise 1 point per £1. The Freedom rewards store has 3 points per £1 and sometimes special offers, e.g. at the moment its 10 points per £1 on travel.0 -
they were adamant that they are not able to transfer accounts into HHonors accounts.. so i now have a pair of Cashback cards en route.0
