Barclaycard - converting Platinum to Hilton Hhonors?

The thread title says it all really. I currently have a BC Platinum at 18.9% and a £3,500 limit, been a cardholder for about 16 months. I've asked them via secure messaging if it's possible to convert my account from standard Platinum to Hilton Hhonors Reward (as I'm aware that some people have been able to convert to the normal cashback duo). I'm starting this thread really to see if anybody else out there has done this, and if not, to chronicle how I get on with my request. Anybody got any experience of this to share?

i have tried this in the past, and found that the only way of obtaining an HHonors card was to apply for one separately.
not sure if they have altered the policy, but during 2015 Barclaycard stopped existing cardholders from opening further accounts. if that is still the case you would need to close & reapply.
if you Can get a second account open, i have found them willing to merge limits with a bit of persuasion.
  • Thanks for the reply. Yes, it seems they don't allow product transfer to that particular card.

I've had a reply offering me a transfer to either the cashback duo, or freedom rewards cards instead. It does seem particularly daft that all of their existing credit-worthy customers are excluded from obtaining this product.

have you asked them whether you are free to just apply for the HHonors card alongside? perhaps they are accepting applications from existing cardholders now?
i was moved on to Freedom Rewards along with being offered a repeat deal..which comes to an end this month as it happens.
there was talk in another thread of a potentially interesting other Barclaycard they could transfer customers to..
but 'duo' doesn't appeal at all.
  • Unfortunately their current policy is not to issue further cards to existing account holders, so I'll just have to wait and hope that changes. Oh well!
  • Wouldn't it be better to apply for HHonors card to make sure you get sign up bonus and free night voucher?
  • Unfortunately I'm not eligible, they now specifically exclude existing Barclaycard customers from being able to apply for it. Somewhat tempted to ditch them, get an Amex reward card instead, and think about applying for the Hilton one after 6-12 months as a new customer.

i have a good limit with Barclaycard.. so their 'no second card' policy is a blow, and seems to be embedded now:think:
a second card could be useful for spending, but also for a 'new' Balance Transfer deal.
im just in the process of moving debt away from them, but i'm thinking ahead to moving back:footie:

I'm in the same boat here. This time last year I had 4x Barclaycards, Platinum, Cashback, Hhonors and IHG. I've closed the latter two, with a view to maybe getting another HHonors one in future, but will have to close all four now to be eligible.

Shame, as I've been hanging on to the Cashback as its my oldest still open card, over a decade now! (Was originally an Initial, then standard, Freedom Rewards and Cashback as of about a year ago). Oh well!

what type of Barclaycard do you have now? did you not thinking that moving to one of the other options was at least a step in the right direction? i'm thinking Cashback is the way to go now, rather than sitting with Freedom Rewards.
i had thought that if i moved to Cashback i would just cut the Amex card up and use the Visa as my American Express backup. but a contributor to another forum reminded me that non-American Express Amex cards do offer useful promotions from time to time, so may be worth keeping in the draw.

just to add that Barclaycard were adamant that transferring in to HHonors was not an option when i spoke to them yesterday. i've transferred in to Cashback as Platinum and Cashback were the only options.
