just to add that Barclaycard were adamant that transferring in to HHonors was not an option when i spoke to them yesterday. i've transferred in to Cashback as Platinum and Cashback were the only options.

Indeed, I got the same spiel on Monday, can txfer between Platinum, Cashback or Freedom Rewards apparently.

They tried to keep my account open by saying it may be possible to transfer to IHG/HHonors in future if an offer is made available, to which I responded that I may as well close it, and apply for a fresh card in the future!
  • The plot thickens on this one!:

I am sure that Hilton and IHG were also very unhappy. There are lots of people out there who hold a Barclaycard and they were effectively banned from taking out the Hilton and IHG products. This won’t have gone down well.

I had heard unconfirmed reports over the last two weeks that Barclays had changed its policy. This has now been confirmed in writing to a HFP reader. He was told:

You were originally declined by ourselves on the basis you already have an existing Barclaycard. Within the time you applied, our policy changed which allows our customers to hold a Barclaycard and a partnership card such as the Hilton Honours [sic] card.

So, the new rule seems to be that you can hold a Barclays-branded card AND the Hilton or IHG card at the same time.

What you CANNOT do is hold the Hilton and IHG cards at the same time. To be honest, I doubt that Hilton or IHG is too concerned about this as it makes their existing customer base ‘stickier’.

and that is very interesting Timbosaurus..

anyone here confirm that Barclaycard holders can also bag a 'Partner' card alongside now?

2 days ago my conversations with Barclaycard included reference to the fact that the only way to get an HHonors card would be to close my Barclaycard, wait 6 months, and then apply:think:
  • I applied for the Hilton card last night though their website, and was declined. Not sure if that is because I already hold a Platinum card with them, or if I don't meet credit policy, but others in the comments on that blog I posted seem to be having the same experience. Barclaycard seem to be in absolute chaos over this issue.

thank you for your response Timbosaurus..
to be honest, i don't think they are in chaos. i think Barclaycards, including HHonors and IHG, are only available to people without existing Barclaycard accounts.

I did, the Cashback card is now closed. I've still got a Platinum, which has a small balance, but that will be cleared and closed next month, at which point I'll reassess my relationship with Barclaycard!

fair enough gw.. i've opted to stick with them, and will use the Cashback Visa when it arrives. but if it wasn't for the good limit i have, and ongoing stoozing plans, and was just about spending cards, i'd be out.

    From there site:

Applying for your Barclaycard should only take a few minutes. Simply complete the details below, read and agree to the legal information in the next step then submit your application. We will give you a decision within 1 minute.
Please note it's not possible to apply for a new Barclaycard if you already have a credit card provided by us, including one of our partner cards.
