    What is rude about giving you sound advice on how to save yourself £120pa, every year?
    How likely is 'accidental damage' to a Sky box anyway?
    What you are paying in pointless insurance would buy you nearly 2 Sky call outs a year anyway-although, if you are out of contract, you can always blag a free callout by giving your notice. How often have you actually claimed on Sky Protect?

    To date, three times; it suits us, but I'll now be looking into the 'sky callout' you have mentioned, so you may well have done me a favour there.

    You have made your point, macman, so I'll leave you to it.

    As said before, it was only a suggestion; well-meant, but incorrect.

    As said before, it was only a suggestion;
    On a money-saving forum you made a post which reads like it was copy pasted directly from Sky Protect promotional material. As others have pointed out, this insurance is at best expensive and unnecessary.

    Remember, this site is about money-saving not money-wasting.

    And deleting your original post means that others cannot benefit from the advice given.
    3 call outs in how many years of cover though? As pointed out, you'd need to have 2 call outs every year to justify the cost of Sky Protect-and those call outs can be had for free anyway.

    The really scary thing is that faulty boxes are routinely simply swapped by Sky Protect with "re-conditioned" ones, so it's really no different to buying a (working) second hand box from E-Bay etc. A Sky Protect swap out does come with a guarantee, but the boxes scan be had so cheaply it hardly seems worthwhile.

    Indeed.
    (Though the original now deleted post did make mention of being "elderly")

    Ive got one for £14 delivered a few months ago , people tend to want the new wifi enabled ones with the big hard drives rather than the old 250mb ones
