I hadn't realised that all that traffic back to MS could overload a PSU...

Before splashing £50 on a replacement I'd want to be sure the one I had was beyond easy repair. Unfortunately from your comments I'm guessing you have no multimeter and can't solder but maybe you have a friend who could?

Worth checking the mains fuse on it although I doubt that will have blown.

One point of weakness on power bricks is the output cable itself although with a 16A one that should be pretty robust but still worth a careful visual check and test wiggle to see if there are any points it seems a bit too flexible. Often the cable can break at the ends from movements over a period.

There could be an internal fuse - from the photo it looks like the end plates may unscrew.

Another common point of failure is the connector on the equipment - especially if it's just soldered to a main board so a wiggle check is worth doing there too - a new PSU won't fix a broken connector.

As it's 12v you could at least try it with a low power car bulb and wires pushed in the connector.

It was tested with a Multimeter at the local PC shop. It just died under power. I did check inside the pc and the connection is sound.
FB is right, my practical skills with anything mechanical or electrical are non existent. That's what shops are for.....;)
So thanks for the tips Kwikbreaks and thanks for trying to save me money, however, on this occasion I'm beyond help.....I think FB was being a bit harsh toward Liberace.

    Hi.
    Thanks for asking.......t3817.gif

Searching for a new one hasn't been successful.
I contacted the PC makers and they, nor their supplier can help as it's not manufactured now.
However, they have contacted their American parent company to see if they can get one of their suppliers to build a replacement. Until they give a definite no, there doesn't seem anywhere else to go with that.
In the meantime, I turned the brick onto it's side (don't know why:)) and it's working, so far (3 days). I think that might indicate something loose on the inside, maybe, perhaps, possibly.....(Like I'd knowconfused0082.gif).
So if I can't get another, I think I'll take it to an electrical engineer and see if they can open it up and work some Voodoo.

Slightly confused, looks pretty generic 12V supply and plug, Maplin have many generic laptop chargers that could certainly be set up with this power and plug combination straight out of the box with no making involved. As long as the polarity is right and capacity is high enough, what's to lose?

Hurry up and get the Maplin one before they sell out as £50 is a good price, worry about changing the connector later.
