That’s awful that your friend can’t see her hubby. I think this care home visiting ban business needs to be re-thought.

Sounded like a lovely virtual early birthday celebration for you and the GKs 🎂

I know - it’s just a heartbreaking situation for those in care homes and hospitals. Not having visitors was just awful when I was in hospital and I was only in 10 days....and dh managed to sneak to a communal area just outside the ward for a couple of short visits as he dropped essential items off for me and a lovely nurse arranged for me to see him. Some of the older people literally sat and stared at the floor ALL day whilst I was in there. And the nurses were too busy to talk to them......you could literally see them going deeper and deeper into themselves 😢

  • Here where I am I despair for the older folk, no visitors inside or outside your home , some of my neighbours are terribly depressed. One of them hasn't seen her husband also physically since March , it is their 60th wedding anniversary next week so sad for all in this boat.
I am sorry the family couldn't come but the virtual birthday cake was a great idea. Next time they come you will be stronger in yourself so that may be better. Do you feel well enough to have building work going on around you ? I know you will see the best side of it . Take care and have as best a birthday you can tomorrow 🎂🍸🎉x

Thanks Sunshine. It’s like deja vu.....after my bowel perforated in 2006 and I was much worse than this time - 6 weeks in hospital then 😱 - we had an extension on the house. It was something to focus on. I made myself a sitting area in the bedroom and if things were noisy or messy I’d take myself up there. Seeing the progress and planning the next steps got me through it. So I’m hoping for the same effect this time. This shouldn’t be as bad 😂😂😂 famous last words 😂😂 If only I’d had a Chrystal ball and realised we’d have needed a downstairs loo at the time.......isn’t hindsight wonderful.
Plus having workmen in will be someone to talk to - from a safe distance of course - since my friends and family can’t visit. It will stop me going stir crazy. Seems ridiculous that I can have workmen in but not my gks 😡😡😡

So it’s been a funny old day. A friend came around and left a birthday present on the doorstep....which was lovely....but it felt very strange chatting from my door to the gate. I’ve had some lovely cards and charms for my bracelet plus a couple of nice cardigans from dd. I have to change one though as it is too big - both the same size - 1 fits one doesn’t from M&S......
Ds came around and we had pizza and finished the cake from weekend. I’m shattered now though.....must be old age......🤔😂

Happy Birthday 🎂🎉🎁 Lovely to see your friend and DS on your special day. It is absolute madness that you can have workmen in but not the GKs.

The nurse has just been and changed the dressing. She is taking swabs tomorrow as it’s still healing very slowly. It’s my bil funeral tomorrow and we need to leave at half eleven to get there in time. The nurses will try to do an early visit but it depends on the workload- fingers crossed 🤞
ive just found a remake of Anne of Greengables on Netflix.....that’s me sorted for a while. It’s taking me back to watching it on tv as a child 🤪
