You might not, but plenty do especially if there is a coffee shop0 -
you might get a person, after the cashier scanned their shopping
and are asked to pay.
they open there bag
opens the purse
get the notes out
have a look for small change,
pay
start packing the shopping very carefully and slowly.
then till operator waits till she finished packing and is walking away.
times that by 6 people
:mad:why dont people have their money ready/handy?
Even worse in Lidl when there is a lack of till operators0 -
There's a smallish mall near me with around 20 stores/shops and the carpark is administered by Sainsbury's, so I can go shopping in Matalan, Blue Inc, have a coffee in Costalot but these don't stamp the card so you have to go into Sainsbury's and spend £10 (not tobacco) otherwise it's £2-00 minimum and after 1 hour £4 after 2 hours £6. All supermarkets allow cowboys to run their carparks . :cool:0

And that's how it should be NOT £100 for overstaying a few mins0 -

Our local 24 hour Asda has two floors and for a shop you have to go to both floors as many essentials are in the basement.
Also in store is a McDonalds, Photo processing, Travel agents, foreign exchange bureau, dry cleaners and a cafe.
For this two hours is nothing. Its also ANPR which purely checks when you passed a camera and not how long you have actually been parked. At busy times finding a space, walking to store and exiting can take 15-20 minutes.
Needless to say we don't shop there.0 -

Yes, my local Asda is similar, it's more like a mini shopping mall.
Not enough time to do everything in 2 hrs, hence Asda and the shops who rent space from Asda really do lose business. It's a no brainer0 -
We shop in a Lidl in Reading which is a few yards from Reading West Station. There are no parking restrictions at all, even on the morning of Christmas Eve we managed to park there. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0

I don't agree with the parking companies BUT there does have to be some kind of system and not just a free for all.
Around here the supermarkets out of town are all free parking (including an Aldi), they can afford to, there is no reason to park there apart to go to the shop.
In town they use parking companies where parking is restricted to two hours. Like I said I don't agree with it but there has to be some way to stop people parking there to go into town. People still park in the car parks and go into town (they must stay under 2 hours). i know this as when I visit a particular supermarket the car park is always full but there are certainly not that amount of people within the shop.0 -

agreed
many have cafes or restaurants and I know for a fact that my wife and her friends meet now and again in Morrissons for lunch and then they all do their shopping before returning home , so regularly take longer than 2 hours to complete both tasks
my local Morrissons has no parking restrictions whatsoever and is in our town centre, yet is never full
it does have a restaurant on site , newsagents and is a fully stocked larger store which also includes a petrol station
this argument about 2 or 3 hours may wash with a stack em high , sell em cheap and dont hang around basic store, but not at my local asda where they have an opticians, pharmacy , cafe , cashpoints , fully stocked shop and gardening centre etc
to stop all day parkers, set it to say 4 or 5 hours , maybe have them buy a ticket like ours do, where you put half on the dashboard and redeem the other half in store for your £1 parking fee (no alchohol or tobacco)
its not hard to figure out, but this stupid argument about "what are you spending 2 hours in a shop for?" is for morons only (as Rinder would say), or narrow minded people who think its more like being with Dale Winton in Supermarket Sweep !
my local retail park has over 40 shops and PE set the time to 4 hours max, so my relatives have been caught out due to visiting half a dozen or more shops and having lunch in BHS (5 HOURS ON SITE) , dropped by PE when confronted with shop receipts proving patronage of the retail park only
there are always ways and means of sorting out the issues, if the playing field is level, its when a PPC puts profit over reasonableness that it gets out of hand, made even worse if we talked about hospitals and surgeries and not shops
this recent thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5394550 shows why heartless parking companies need a rocket up em0
