BTW Aldi are really good if you mention next time in store (don't need to return the meat item) and they fill out a quick form and you get free replacement. Once got a large chicken, got it home and it was off (must of had a small hole in packaging) - 20-25 mins drive away so just waited to following week - mentioned what happened and got replacement.

Nope. I bought 3 packs each with 2 steaks in, they were all the same. I've had a reply from Aldi via Facebook, they've offered a refund if i take my receipt and the packaging back to the store, i don't have the packaging but i'm going to ask for a refund anyway. It was over £10 !0 -
Lidl Tower Gate shortbread fingers are very nice. Thick biscuits, nice texture and great buttery taste.0

I've tried several varieties from the Aldi "Slimfree" range of frozen ready meals. and have found them all to be very good, For anyone who hasn't come across them, they are a prodigious serving for one but still come in at 250-400 calories per serving. I think my favourite so far is the Chicken Saag - lots of chicken and plenty of veg (spinach, onions and tomato). £1.99, but I think they provide reasonable VFM for being large and very filling.
New product at Aldi: Frozen Cauliflower rice. Two single-serve sachets for 99p. 3 varieties (Plain, Mediterranean, and one I can't remember (could be Parsley)).
Returning product at Aldi: Mini Cheese Roules. These are all very nice (several varieties with rich cream cheese flavoured in various ways). I have a feeling that these are cheaper than they were last year (at 79p each).0 -

Today i have found the first item from Aldi that has disappointed me. I bought 3 packs of lamb leg steaks, over £9 in total, when i opened them, they all looked perfectly lean on top. Turning them over, 3 of them were just skin with a thin layer of meat. the other 3 underneath were full of fat, it was difficult to get a decent amount of lean meat from them. (i was making Lamb hotpot so needed to cube them)
Very sneaky of Aldi to package them that way, i won't buy lamb there again, i'll stick to the butchers. I'm going to message them via Facebook to complain.
Wow, that's highly unusual for Aldi. I buy their lamb leg steaks all the time, although admittedly not in the last couple of months, and they've always been solid meat with very little fat and certainly no skin.
I would definitely take them back to complain as I wonder whether Aldi even know about this as it's entirely possible their supplier could be scamming them too!0 -

Can you please tell me the fat and sugar content of the Slimfree meals? I often find low fat products increase sugar/salt content to compensate lack of flavour from omission of fat. When, in reality, it's the sugar content which is predominantly attributable to obesity.0 -
I had one of Aldi's 'Ambiano' chest freezers delivered yesterday. They're charging £99 plus a very reasonable £4 or thereabouts for delivery.
It's exactly the same Chinese made freezer that is sold under dozens of brand names in the UK, sometimes for as much as £140 or more. The only difference is that with Aldi you get a three year guarantee.
Another excellent buy from Aldi!0 -

Here are the details for two of the varieties, they vary somewhat between varieties, though the trend is lower fat, higher protein and higher fibre:-
Chicken Saag
Per pack (500g)
Energy 320kcal
Fat 4.0g of which 1.0g saturates
Carbohydrates 9.3g of which sugars 9.0g
Fibre 8.2g
Protein 58g
Salt 2.2g
I think the salt is too high, and the disappointing thing is that a spicy dish doesn't need so much salt. OTOH, it is dispersed amongst 500g of the dish, plus whatever you serve with it.
Bolognese Ragu
Per pack (450g)
Energy 212 kcal
Fat 4.2g of which 1.9g saturates
Carbohydrates 17g of which 11g sugars
Fibre 6.0g
Protein 24g
Salt 1.6g0 -
