I've had problems with Lidl veg from day one.

Just to put this in perspepective (and I'm the first to grumble about Aldi's fruit and veg) the other day I was in a large branch of Waitrose (Ashford, Kent) and the baking potatoes weren't just green, they were actually sprouting!

It's not just the German discounters who get it wrong with fresh produce, it seems.

That's true. I was in a Sainsburys local near Christmas and they were selling a split bag of spuds reduced to clear. They were green as hell.
Told the guy that he shouldn't sell them like that because of the toxins in the green areas. He looked at like I was off my rocker. I had to tell him if you don't believe me, Google it.

I do see other stuff in all supermarkets being sold where if I was on that section they wouldn't be sold.

I picked up a pack of mushrooms in Waitrose yesterday, and they came with a free live slug inside! Not even a small one... a big fat slimey slug.

Earlier on today, bought a few bits from Morrisons and noticed dead plants that weren't watered at all reduced to 25p-50p.

I have seen dead plants in Aldi too.

Why do supermarkets sell plants and never bother to water them?

No idea, but my experience with B&Q plants are that even those on their last legs can be revived, so for 25p I'd be inclined to nurture.

This is a little dated, but it might help:
