Aldi focaccia - tried it today. Big disappointment. Little more than expensive rolls with a smear of coating.
I went in looking for a fougasse (the most mighty of cinema snacks:rotfl:) for which I had the oddest of cravings. I know I have purchased them from Aldi in the past and it was yummy!
Well they don't stock them anymore apparently and ended with a focaccia instead. Have to say that I can't agree more with Doc N. Very disappointing0 -

I have to agree too. Very disappointing which is unusual for Aldi.0 -

It is very mild, that is true. Slightly oily, slightly herbed bread. I think it's OK dunked in soup but not as a standalone food.
They do a focaccia trio, which looks similar to the one sold by M&S. However, the flavour is very different. Quite spicy. Here's a picture of the M&S ones; the Aldi ones look similar but taste different. http://veggies.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/mands_foc_trio_prod.jpg
I tried Lidl's 'Colossus Energy Drink Zero'. It's OK, but the zero version does have a slightly odd aftertaste. I have never drunken Monster energy drink, which I presume that Collossus is a copy of, so I cannot compare it. I poured it out into a glass, and I have NEVER seen a drink that looks more like urine than this one does.0 -

It's the trio focaccia I bought which I wasn't impressed with.0 -
got my XXL beef joint in the oven. I seal at 220C uncovered for half an hour then add some stock cover and seal and slow cook for 4 hours at 180C. Leave to cool completely then I carve into inch thick slices and freeze packed in some of the juice and stock liquid from the baking tin (usually plenty and so meaty).
Lazy roast dinner! cook the roasts, yorkshires etc then microwave (covered) a slice or two per person in the juice I packed it. Melt in the mouth tender and you wouldn't know it wasn't just cooked, the liquids then go into a gravy. Roast diner any time in 45 minutes.
The Lidl XXL joints nave turned out better for me than any of the butchers ones I tried and although not cheap (£12-£18'ish ..about £17 for a 3kg) will do several roast diners for 4 including 2 hungry teens.0 -

I wasn't impressed with the trio focaccia either, too much bread, not enough topping, but the 4 pack rosemary one is good when warm, i've seen fougasse in Aldi recently ? It was in the fridge with all the garlic breads.0 -
I bought the Aldi coconut cream ice cream today, the 'plain' version. It looks unnaturally white. It's OK, but I don't think it's as good as the chocolate version.
Aldi have told me that the coconut cream ice cream will be seasonal, while stocks last.
I have never heard of fougasse before; off to google what it is.0 -
I'd noticed East End chickpeas in Aldi and Lidl have a whole end of aisle display of East End products - never seen a branded display like this in a discounter. I was on my way to the till so didn't really look but did spot quite large jars of garlic and ginger as well as chickpeas and what looked like baklava. I already had the Lidl Batts version of Lazy Garlic in my trolley.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0
