The Aldi 200g bar of wholenut milk chocolate is pretty good for 85p, prefer it to the Cadbury version. The Lidl version is not good, but their twix are better.

SM packs are 16s. What mcculloch29 was pointing out was the inconsistency between Aldi and Lidl. The long hand of regulation only stretches so far!

Hell, you can go to Poundland and buy 32 in one go.

Years ago, when the restriction was introduced I was working in an area where a market trader was selling the equivalent of over 100 on offer!

There's inconsistency because there's a mishmash of legislation and guidelines. The first, of course, is mandatory, but not so the second.

1998 legislation brought in pack size restrictions to 16 tablets at non-pharmacy retail outlets and it's also illegal to sell more than 100 tablets or capsules of either paracetamol or aspirin in any one retail transaction.

In 2009 the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) released further guidelines governing over the counter drug sales in the UK stating:

“no retailer should sell more than two packets of paracetamol (500 mg) in one transaction, retailers should be discouraged from promoting the sale of more than one pack at a time and that it is illegal to sell more than 100 tablets of paracetamol (500 mg) or aspirin (75–300 mg) in one transaction.”

Different retailers take different approaches. Poundland, for example, will happily sell you three packs of 16 tablets, whilst most retailers stick to two.

As Doc N has just pointed out regards Poundland, I presume you meant to say 48 in one go.

In Poundland it's 3 packs of any painkiller for a quid, and yes it was the inconsistency between Aldi/Lidl I was pointing out.

FWIW, a pharmacist will sell you 96 Ibuprofen or Paracetamol if you ask. You need to be assessed by them by a quick conversation.

I have severe arthritis that isn't really helped by prescription medication any more than it is by paracetamol, ibuprofen and exercise. So I choose to save the NHS money and buy my own painkillers, riding my trike down town to do so.

Lidl heads up for fellow cyclists.
I got around to buying their 'Crivit' chain cleaner and it is absolutely brilliant. It's a plastic cassette fitted with brushes.

You partially fill the cassette with cleaning liquid and run the chain through. They have been on sale in Lidl for a long time and at £3.99 are a great buy.
The special offer featuring them was a couple of weeks ago but my nearest store still had a dozen in stock.

The store also had some super clothing reductions, impressed.

When I had motorbikes we had a round tin of chain lube you put the chain in then stuck it in the oven which filled the kitchen with noxious fumes,I remember my mother going mad about it.

Tried the Aldi Specially Selected frozen scallops today (£5.99, 250g).

Very disappointing indeed. Flavourless, disintegrated on cooking. Back to Waitrose for these - a bit dearer, but considerably better.

Don't remember them being particularly noxious. Quite enjoyed the smell, somewhat distinctive. A bit like Castrol R having a unique aroma.

Those were the days. Filtrate or Duckhams

Never did it in the oven though, gas ring for me

We've gone a bit off track and it was me sparking it again... First the painkillers, and now the chain lube on a cooker.
Mine was actually a cleaner rather than a lube. For lube I use a variant on WD40, although the Lidl clean machine came with its own 50 ml bottle of oil.
Lidl's next specials are on their app and website. Health and beauty, flowers/planters and casual clothing this Thursday, home cleaning, workout and motoring gadgets from Sunday.

I usually use Aldi's Lacura face creams and have always been fine. I particularly liked the one that came in the pink and white tube, but it seems to be discontinued :(.

Anyway, I tried the Renew Q10 one as an alternative and immediately had stinging eyes...carried on using it for a few days (I know :o..) and now have a sore pink bumpy face. Maybe it's just my skin reacting to a particular ingredient, but having been fine with Lacura stuff before am disappointed.
