DW came back from Aldi with a 50/50 polyester cotton king size bed sheet for something like £5. Quality turns out to be OK.

Me too, but if I don't have the LO in the car I don't use the child parking space.

The space at the side is handy when getting kids in and out of the car though.

Yesterday I did use the space with no kids and I'm glad I did.

Only having 3 doors, my driver/passenger doors are a lot bigger. Yesterday as I opened my door to get out, the wind ( we had winds of 70mph here ) caught it and swung it wide open. I'd would have damaged a car next to me in a normal bay.

Still karma is a !!!!!, going out to lift dh from work, getting into the car the wind once again caught the door slamming it into my leg. I'm black and blue :(

Aldi have some good Specialbuys coming up. They are great at sensible prices for independent living equipment. I wanted a step with a handle attached to help me to get in and out of my very high bath safely.

This step is £14.99 with free postage from Thurs next week, the cheapest online that I can find is £25. My occupational therapist wasn't able to source me one, so I'm delighted to find this. I've also bought a knee cushion for use in bed -£7, double that plus online from other suppliers.

On an unrelated product, yesterday I had an Aldi rolled breast of lamb that I'd popped in the freezer a while ago. I needed it unrolled for the recipe I was using.
What I had when I unrolled it was two breasts of lamb - two excellent quality pieces of meat, from spring lambs - the ribs were even edible as it was so tender. It was British lamb too.

Today 3rd February was surprised to find several items I'd been about to buy much dearer than Sainsbury's.

Magnum ice cream box of 4 - £2.49 vs £2
Muller fruit corner £2.49 vs £2
Philadelphia cheese spread 125g 99p (79p per 100g) vs 180g £1.00 (56p per 100g). A smaller pack for negligibly less, and far worse value.

I tend to do an online search when I'm suspicious of an item in Lidl for being too expensive or a non-standard size. Google "Sainsbury's <name of product>". You can't check lidl but if in Sainsbury's I check Asda.

Drove into Lidl earlier for a big shop. It's a standard sized store, but the car park is small, perhaps 30 spaces at best. I expected to queue for a bit, but not for the queue to obstruct both sides of the road. The reason being 2 large Lidl delivery tricks were also in the car park - one coming, one going - and selfish shoppers in their cars just did not want to give them way. I saw some tricky manoeuvres from my vantage point on the road, and one of the lorry drivers wiped sweat from his brow. Kudos to both for managing so well in stressful circumstances.

All Lidl store staff work damned hard for their money, truck drivers included.

Noticed cucumbers have gone up to 50p btw.

The Lidl store near me has ridiculous lorry access. They almost have to do a pirouette to get in, even without cars in the car park. In doing so, they completely block the entrance.
  • Talking of parking.....

Last time I went to Aldi, a lone woman parked in a parent & child space. Took a childs car seat out of the boot, put it in the car and swanned into Aldi.

How is that for brass neck????

Last week in Tesco car park two grown women got out of their car which took the last parent and child space. I pointed out the error of their ways. "I have got a child, it's at home". What about the next parent who comes with their child that can't get a space?, I asked. "I'm only popping in, and it's for my child." They giggled insanely as they strode off.

Have you tried https://www.mysupermarket.co.uk the Aldi & Lidl sections are somewhat limited but they are quite new to the website, I really like the app, quick scan of the barcode and you can find out if something is cheaper elsewhere.

I had the ready made jar of Thai Red Curry sauce from Aldi for a very quick chicken curry today, and it was absolutely lovely.
I'd not noticed it prior to a recent visit, so think it may be new - or perhaps a returner that I'd previously missed as I usually made my own Thai curry sauce from scratch.

Mild-ish but still with some heat and with recognisable bits of pepper. It was so thick that it didn't want to leave the jar. Always a good sign.

Lidl & Aldi are not about competitive prices for branded products. Those items may well be the same price or more than the big 4. This has been the case for several years, at least.

Or just buy one of L & A's excellent own-brand items and typically save 50% against the branded product price.

For your three items, I'd recommend:-

Lidl "Magma" Ice Cream (similar to a special edition Magnum) - 6 for £1.79. (40% saving)

Aldi Fruit on the Bottom Greek style yogurts - 4 for 99p (50% saving)

Aldi Soft cheese with Garlic & Herbs - 49p for 200g. (55% saving)
