There's no doubt prices have been rising but, as usual, Sainsbury's seems to be leading the pack. Somehow it seems to have pulled off the trick of convincing its customers that it is somehow more up market that Tesco and that its higher prices are 'worth it'.
I'm watching Aldi like a hawk to see if it follows suit. So far, so good...0 -

I get my main shop in Aldi and just pop over to Sainsbobs for what I can't get in Aldi. These comments have prompted me to check the prices online of the odd things I do get in Sainsbobs before I go on Thursday - a few examples - TDT frozen breaded haddock up 30p. TTD Vivaldi potatoes up 30p. Warburtons mini bagels up to £1.50 (though currently on offer!) In fact the only item that I buy there that has remained the same (for now) is their own brand Liquorice teabags!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. Just out of curiosity, how does anyone expect any supermarket - even Aldi and Lidl - to maintain prices when so many raw materials are imported and the Pound has fallen so much against the Euro and the Dollar as a direct result of certain recent happenings?0

My thoughts entirely, hence my original post questioning why people are grumbling at produce in Aldi increasing by a few pence.0 -

I'm not sure "grumbling" is the word. "Observing" might be more accurate.
I fully expect price rises over time. The fascinating thing about A & L is how they maintain some of their prices over years (certainly since I started shopping there regularly about 5 years ago).0 -
Went into Aldi for the first time in a few months. Disappointed that they seem to have stopped doing the Asian noodle ready meals. I used to like them. Bought a couple of the specially selected rib eye steaks which are always delicious and some Nespresso compatible pods, thanks to the poster who mentioned them a while back. I'll give them a whirl.0

Drove into Lidl earlier for a big shop. It's a standard sized store, but the car park is small, perhaps 30 spaces at best. I expected to queue for a bit, but not for the queue to obstruct both sides of the road. The reason being 2 large Lidl delivery tricks were also in the car park - one coming, one going - and selfish shoppers in their cars just did not want to give them way. I saw some tricky manoeuvres from my vantage point on the road, and one of the lorry drivers wiped sweat from his brow. Kudos to both for managing so well in stressful circumstances.
All Lidl store staff work damned hard for their money, truck drivers included.
Noticed cucumbers have gone up to 50p btw.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Oil price is traded in Dollars, everything that is delivered to food producers if it be packaging or raw materials has an increase, every delivery to the retailers distribution centres has increased, every retailers own vehicles delivering to store has had an increase, so that 3 lots of fuel to start.
We have all seen the bad weather in Spain and other parts of Europe that would normally supply the UK with fresh produce. We now have a situation where we are competing for product that countries who are normally suppliers also being buyers.
4-6 weeks of very lean supply is pretty much expected, that will be Broccoli, spinach, certain lettuce varieties and courgettes as we all know as they are all grown outside.
Peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes are all grown indoors so they should recover quiet quickly.
Regardless of what people say Food in the U.K. Is cheap compared to many countries. Prices are only going to increase across the board, only so much can be grown/ Imported/ reared."Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain."
