Keeping email address

Options
Hi wonder if anyone can help - I have a current dial-up internet account with Orange and thinking of changing to Broadband - but if I get Broadband with a different service provider other than Orange does that mean I won't be able to keep my old orange email address even if I continue to access it via the Orange webpage?

Many thanks for any info - getting through to Orange to get a simple question answered is like pulling teeth..........

If i remember rightly you should be able to create a webmail address with Orange using your current e-mail address. Then if you use another provider for braodband you can still go to the orange homepage and log into the webmail service. Been a long since I did it though, so it would be best to check on the orange homepage that a webmail service still exists.
  • aha I'm able to use webmail for my work email when I'm not in the office so that makes sense - thanks very much I'll have a check on the Orange website.

You'll have to check Orange's terms and conditions, you may need to still dial up into Orange every few months or so to keep your account active. Otherwise they could just close your account altogether. I always advise people to use email addresses independant of their ISP, preferably their own domain name, if not then something like googlemail or hotmail. Because no matter what you get away with now, ISPs may change their terms for email addresses on a whim.

Looking at Orange's website it seems you have to dial into Orange with your old dial up modem at least every 219 days or your account will be suspended.

  • why not open a free email address up such as yahoo or gmail...I have loads of both and if you change ISP it doesn't matter as you still have your gmail or yahoo...which I have been using both as my main emails forever...just a thought...:D

  • ive an old freeserve email address from years ago and its still going and im with sky now and have been for the last year.ive put the pop and smtp settings into outlook great
  • thanks very much for all the info - just thinking if I get Broadband on my computer would I still be able to use my old Orange dial-up as I'm currently on Anytime which is a monthly direct debit so presumably that would stop the account....god I'm so untechnical just the thought of changing to Broadband is scary enough!

It's also a right pain as I bought a new computer and so set up Windows whatever it's called as my email thingy on my new computer (it was Outlook Express on my old computer) and thought it would have all my old email contacts still there as it would still be me and all my details logging on....but it didn't....yes that's just how bad I am! So I just can't be ar*ed getting a new address as you can imagine...........

it's quite easy and should be pain free to swap from dial-up to broadband...all you need is a mac code/key from your ISP...then give that to whom ever you are going with and they do all the work for you about 10 days to sort it out...then you just put in the software they send you and click next next next your details ie...your new email address and password with them...then plug in the modem when your told to and hey presto your up and running on broadband...try a free gmail account you can put in all your contacts in there and keep it forever no matter which ISP you go with...we all live and learn from each other...one day you'll think why did I think that was hard...chin up and take deep breaths if in doult you know where we all are...:D

I had Orange dial up, though it was "Freeserve" at the time. I moved to BT Broadband and still kept my "fsmail.net" e-mail account with orange.
Cancel the DD and downgrade. Make sure you get the freebie.

Why would you need a MAC for getting a new broadband service? Surely it's only sometimes necessary when changing from an existing broadband service.
