+1 to GingerBob , I've seen tons of fraud cases on ActionFraud , around 99% of the time crooks use fake utility bills to get around verification. This is because most financial institutions verify Driving license / Passport but don't or can't verify utility bills .Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God's side, for God is always right.

From experience of working in banking, we stopped holding customer documents a long time ago. Getting cards sent to branch was done in extenuating circumstances, most cases were students accounts where the family/residential and student addresses are different; the student/term time address was used as correspondence.
On subject of correspondence addresses these are used often for reasons you've mentioned in the thread: getting card and even PIN sent to the branch could be possible but will be bank and branch dependent and subject to suitable ID checks. Best speaking to the bank.
Regarding ID: a driver licence is only used as either ID or AV not for both to satisfy AML regulations; can't recall exact bit of legislation but these need to verified independently of each other.0 -
Did they say that the reason they couldn't accept it was solely because it was printed from the internet?
Nothing that I would be able to disclose.
I'm an LBG employee (not in retail banking though). I suspect chriskv was wrongly informed by branch staff.
You're still wrong. All the LBG banks require proof of ID and proof of address to open an account.
The only exception for a new customer would be if they are a UK or other selected EU national and bring their passport as proof of ID, as a passport can be used as a single document for ID&V. If you bring your photocard drivers license, you'll still need to prove your address.DEBT FREE!
