Greetings Frugalistas,
I seem to be all behind like a cow's tail today. Never mind, have managed a few money saving bits. So far, I have:
*Saved some energy bill by jumping in mr f's bath water as soon as he jumped out! It really annoys me letting a whole bath of hot water that we've paid to heat straight down the plughole without re-using it if possible. Sometimes I use it for pre-soaking stuff, or washing cat bedding. Washed hair & let it dry naturally. Not going out today, so the 'hedge backwards' look is acceptable.
*Put smoky sausage & beans casserole thingy in slow cooker for tonight. The sausages were bought for Christmas sausage rolls but I didn't make as many as mr f thought we'd (he'd!) need, so I froze them for an extra meal. It'll make 4 portions so will freeze two for a 'free' meal.
*Squidged down to greenhouse to cut a big bunch of watercress. Made it into cream of watercress soup. I like the old 'Cranks' recipe book for basic healthy, hearty soups. They are very good, easy & use only a few ingredients which I've usually got in stock. My book is in pieces! I bought it in the mid-1980s & have used it so often, it's completely fallen to bits!
*Made tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Re-filled tiny plastic boxes with dried fruit for work snacks. Used up the last of the fruit bought for Christmas baking.
*Mended blanket which looked suspiciously like it had, had a run-in with cat.
*Did a few surveys, but only quick ones, as have other plans for today.
*New cafetiere gauze arrived in post - around a fiver, so cheaper & greener than chucking an otherwise good cafetiere for want of a single small part. These things are standard sizes but it didn't fit! mr f reckoned he could sort it. This involved repeatedly hitting it with a hammer until it fitted. (kind of his 'go to' method on these occasions.....) Anyway, it worked & made the nicest gunk-free mug of lovely hot coffee I've had at home for a long time :-)
Still to do:
*Work on a big ongoing task from my 'Annoying Things' list. It's free to do, but will save me a tenner a month once it's finished. So there's an incentive. "Will it make the boat go faster?" Yes!!
Bob - Great news on the payment! Whooo-hooo! Another one bites the dust!
LaE - So my description of the 'pre-LBM' mr f rang a bell with you, with your OH, lol. Another thing was if I asked how his finances were looking.....for instance if we wanted to go on holiday or replace a large household item, etc, he'd say things like 'I've got about £500" or £800 or £1000 or whatever it was. It took a while for me to realise that when he said this, he actually meant was that he'd got that amount of credit left on his card or overdraft limit. He used to be so blase about it. A really key bit of progress for us was gradually getting our overdrafts paid off so that ALL our salary was 'our money' instead of losing so much of it straight down 2 big black holes. I think you will get there with your partner. MIne says he would no longer go back to his chaotic approach to money. Hope he's right!

Ally - re de-icer - I just fill a milk bottle up with luke warm water and poor it over. Find it de-ices and de-mists at the same time!
Unfortunately it's usually so cold up here that warm water quickly re-freezes on the screen where de-icer does not.Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0 -
Oh of course Ally! You're way up country and I'm on the South Coast, so when you get frost I'm sure its much worse then here!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
Current debt - £5,555.00
Total paid off - £10,045.89 (64% paid off)0 -
Heating on already - not MSE, but can't have it cold in here for the little one  Now firmly off and wood burner lit
Not planning on any spends NSD:T
OH bought lots of bits back from the social thing he attended last night, which will do for lunch and delight GD :rotfl:Did lunch for all of us, and still some left
Cook turkey I got the other day for half price later, will have a meal from it tonight and portion up and freeze the restIn oven, nearly done
Portion up and freeze the spiced red cabbage I made yesterday (will keep out enough for dinner) Portioned up in fridge, will freeze lately
Bring in the quiche I made yesterday from the meat safe in the conservatory if it gets warm out there (it is at least as cold as the fridge at the moment ) I didn't have room in the fridge for it last night but once the turkey goes in, the fridge will be free-ish againWell, it is still in the meat safe, and it has stayed really cold out there - will sort it out tomorrow, but it is fine for now
Entertain GD for free, must get ready in a minute Hilarious day had by all, grandma now has a large glass of wine :rotfl:
And fit in dog walks x 2 (OH will do the first one) OH did both, as I took little GD out in her pushchair this afternoon to get her to have a nap, which we both needed
Any surveys, FPL etc (this will have to wait till this evening) Unsurprisingly not yet done
Right, better get prepared for dealing with the naughty baby / puppy combo. Will check back later
Hope everyone has a good day and beats the January gloom!
Well, apart from not spending anything, I haven't done much today, apart from playing with mud and water in the garden (brrr ), playdough, playing in the sink, singing, blowing bubbles for the puppy to pop, jumping on the sofa (not me I hasten to add ), going for a walk, feeding the ducks in the park, drawing, dancing, rescuing puppy / baby as necessary when one or the other played too rough, cuddling, watching cbeebies, having ago with my lip gloss, feeding the chickens and giving them new straw, having a go with the potato peeler (under strict supervision) - actually, I might need another glass of wine :rotfl:0 -
So it is snowing sleeting and freezing her, so first ewe has lambed. In a warm shed so ok for tonight.
Have just done a £76 Mr t order for tomorrow night.
Am off out now to check the maternity ward.
So exciting.

It's all ok, just too many things
Writing today off. Better luck tomorrow!
Have a good evening folks. keep warm

Evening all...
This is me tonight:(:undecided:huh::wall: and everything in between. I am determined to get a better night of sleep tonight though. I will be heading up by 8pm.
Congrats on the little lambs Maria - it is also cold here tonight. We're expecting a bit of snow as well - which will stress me out even more when I'm commuting.
Twiggy - I seem to recall free eye tests at T£sco - not sure if that's worth looking into?
And Bob - well done on clearing that debt.
I was right about the impending sense of doom - work has been an utter pig today to say the very least.crazy_cat_lady wrote: »
