Problem with Electric Blanket.

We bought an electric blanket from Argos in October 2014, it's out of guarantee with them so they advised me to get in touch with, Dreamland (Imetec) as it had a 3 year warranty with them. I contacted them and was told to do a few checks to see if it was the blanket or the control. It turned out that it was the blanket as it 'blew' the other control as well. I asked them if they would pay for the return and they said 'no' we'll only pay to return it to you.
This doesn't seem right to me as it cost nearly £15 to return, cheapest way I could find.
They obviously want to check if it's a fault or if we did something to it to cause it. I'm pretty sure we didn't.
Do you think I'd have any chance of getting the postage back?

It may well be "out of guarantee with them" but you still have a right to seek a remedy from them, as MSE's Consumer Rights guide says:Know who's responsible
When returning items, beware shops trying the oldest trick in the book: saying they're not responsible for the shoddy goods and you must call the manufacturer. This is total nonsense!
If a company fobs you off by saying “go to the maker instead”, it's wrong. It's the retailer's job to sort it.
It doesn't matter if it's an iPod from a high street shop or a designer frock from a department store. If something's broken, torn, ripped or faulty, the seller has a legal duty to put it right as your contract is with it.
A manufacturer's warranty is in addition to your statutory rights and as such the warranty provider can specify conditions - such that you pay for sending the thing back to them.
Have you checked the shipping price with other carriers?0 -
Argos don't need to do anything, so they can take any stance they want until the OP proves otherwise.
As it's a warranty issue and not a SOGA issue yet then you are bound by the warranty terms.0 -
I'm sure i read somewhere that the Fire Brigade do free tests on electric blankets.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

I can't find anything in their terms and conditions about sending something faulty back when it's still under warranty. The only thing I can find is if you send something back because you don't like it, you have to pay then, which is understandable.0 -

Does it say in the warranty booklet that came with the blanket? As their site refers to it, I'm wondering if the terms are slightly different depending on which blanket you have purchased?0

It will be an RTB warranty, so the postage is down to you.
You should have been able to courier this for no more than £10, not £15.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
