Good morning everyone :hello:

I woke up in a right grump this morning and then was very saddened to hear of the death of David Bowie, his music helped to keep me sane through my terrible teenage years. I am playing his music at the moment.

Hubby has gone off to work and the girls are getting ready for school. DD15 is staying home though as she had very little sleep last night and doesn't feel able to cope today.

I have managed to get a tesco delivery slot for later tonight so I will go and put an order in before the time runs out. Sorry to read and run but I am not in a good place today. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning :hello:

Islandmaid and TravellingAbuela Thanks for the fencing clips info the other day :) I knew I could slide panels in if we used H posts, but it'd work out quite expensive that way and I really didn't want concrete posts. With the clips I can still use wood which will look much nicer.
Mr tru has turned this into a huge project, he's been looking at picket fencing and all sorts of fancy shapes, and has decided that the fence should be permanent and we need a wide gate that we can open up in the summer.......... The bit that needs fencing is only small (9 slabs x 7 slabs) and only two sides need doing! I just wanted something to stop Scampi trailing mud through the house when the weather is bad, not some fancy garden-of-the-year thing. I'm not going to mention it again, he'll forget about it in a few days, I'll search for best prices then get on with it by myself.

I've finally found some time to crochet with no interruptions :D I've picked up my jumper again, I haven't touched it for ages.

The seam on my favourite jumper had started to come apart so I've stiched that up. Also sewn some buttons on a couple of cushion covers.

There were lots of bits of cheese hidden at the back of the fridge – why does no-one use them up before opening a new pack? - so I've grated and frozen them.

Still got no energy so just pottering about. I'm getting a bit bored now, hope things go back to normal soon, I'm itching to get stuck into a project (anything will do!) and actually see it through to the end :D

Morning everyone.

There was so much rain overnight but I can't tell yet what it's like outside.

So sad about Bowie. I wasn't ever a fan but I did go to an exhibition about him in Berlin last year.

Hopefully the builder will be back this week to finish off the work in my tiny front hall. I'm having a coir mat set into the floor so the hole needs drilled out. The plumber rang last night to make loose arrangements to do the work in the bathroom - a point of use water heater was put in by the sparky before Christmas and that needs plumbed in. Of course, I have to take into account Argyll time which is in no way resembles real time.

More freezer food today, took out some venison sausages last night, and the last of the veg. It's my online banking day, will catch up with my uni students (gentle encouragement may be needed) and a book to read.

I hope everyone has a good Monday.

I am utterly floored by the news of David Bowie! I totally adored Life and Mars but my most favorite was Ashes To Ashes.

A huge, huge talent and it really does bring to the fore that life is fleeting and you never know when! Rest In Eternal Peace David - you gave so much joy to so very many through your music!

• TRU what is it with men that they have to make such heavy weather out of jobs?! Why do they always refuse to consider the easiest solution?! Good luck with your fence x

RIP David Bowie. I wasn't a really big fan either, although I did like some of his music, but when it's someone your own age it certainly hits home.

• Good Morning everyone, grey and wet underfoot here again this morning but not raining at the moment. The recycling lorry came mega early this morning, not usually around until lunchtime and woke us up at 7.30 so just as well it did!

The news of David Bowies death is very sad but I have total admiration for the discretion and privacy of the man for NOT making a song and dance about his illness and for only announcing the death, good on him and his family.

Relations are tricksy beasts no matter how well you get on with them. It's not as easy as letting an aquaintance go if it doesn't suit you because you're stuck with the particular relative forever. I had an abysmal relationship with my mother and finally walked away never to have contact again when my eldest was 8, so almost 30 years ago and I have to admit I will always live with the guilt of doing so BUT life was so much less fraught after I did make that decision and life for my dear old He Who Knows and the girls was SO much better without me in a permanent tizzy. I get on pretty well with my brother and his lovely wife who are the only other relatives we actually have but we don't live in each others pockets and only see one another once a week for the pub quiz unless I bump into him in the street. It's enough and we're both happy with it. My departed and entirely unlamented mother in law made my life an utter misery from the day I met He Who Knows but she needed much more support so I did what I could whilst being the Not Good Enough to be in our family DIL. Perhaps that redressed the balance a little but life without difficult relationships is sometimes worth the angst it causes. Sometimes you can't fix things, ever, and it's sometimes better to put down the family closeness with those relatives for the good of your own soul and wellbeing.

Have yourselves a nice day everyone, Lyn xxx.

Morning (((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))))if you need one, especially Hester, hope you got back to sleep for a bit. I know all about parent problems, my mother used to play off my children against me, never stopped moaning. My son who has just died lived with her for a while, she really used him, and then bit back and accused him of stealing a clock (which was mine anyway) she had given to someone else. I walked away in 1990, life was so much more peaceful after that, no more 'I am dying and the doors locked' calls at 2 or 3am, I would go skidding over and find her standing on the doorstep asking what took me so long!! She then expected me to stay with her neglecting my own family. No way,

Laundry ready to go out, it appears to have stopped raining, the forecast is for it to be dry but cold, so would like to get it out on the line for a bit of a blow, will finish it off in front of the living room fire when we go to bed.

Just the bathroom to do this morning, bedroom was done yesterday after we changed the bed.

Need to make a pot og soup, lentil I think, I have some bacon thats beginning to dry out, will chop it up and stick it in.

Eggs and wedges tonight for supper. We will finish off the bread and butter pudding from yesterday.

RIP Mr Bowie ,There is a star man waiting in the sky for you, thank you for your music.

Morning chums ,wet again this morning and looking very grey and dark at the moment I thought my cold was on the way out, but its determined to hang around for a bit longer.

I have book club this morning which I always enjoy. Then round to DDs to tidy up breakfast bits peel and prep for her dinner tonight, let the dogs out for a run in the garden, then back home for me for lunch.I would have gone on the Healthy Living walk first thing, but decided with this rotten cold I would do myself more harm than good.
My kettle went pop yesterday and I tried exchanging the fuse, but it still didn't want to work so I had to buy a new one.I got one in the local Wilkos in the sale for a tenner, reduced by £2.00 and its bright red which matches my toaster so I am quite pleased with that.
Right time to get a wriggle on
Have a good day chums and try to keep warm and dry
Cheers JackieO xxx

Hi everyone,

We had a lovely weekend, but it went too quickly as usual. DH has nearly finished fitting the alarm, he just needs to put the outside box up. He warned me not to touch it while it was on the floor and then movd it himself - what a racket.

He didn't finish because DS and fiancee rang to ask if we wanted to go for a walk, so of course we said yes. We try very hard not to pass up any opportunity to spend time with our kids because they are all so busy. They brought a wedding invitation with them and the news that everything is now booked, they have hired a beautiful villa that sleeps 30 for a few days, the actual ceremony will be in a nearby castle and the reception at the villa. DH and I are going to drive down and back and make a road trip of it, so excited.

I work really hard at maintaining a close relationship with my children and their spouses because of my own family. Mum and dad never tried to foster any family feeling of togetherness and as a result I shall probably only ever see 3 of my 4 brothers at funerals (if then). Since mum's estate was wound up I haven't even had a Christmas card from them (although one is a JW so I didn't expect it from him). Ironically, it's the brother I couldn't stand growing up that I shall probably see, I still find him hard work, although his heart is in the right place and I like his DW.

Sorry for going on, today's happenings will be visits to Lidl and maybe Sainsbury's depending what is on the list, sewing and maybe doing a bit of housework, I need to try to develop a routine and stick to it, rather than sewing all the time.

Have a good day.

As always last to the party! Sad news about DB. Jean Genie was one of my favourites I think.

I have done a quick tidy in the kitchen and Futility room. Next lot of washing in. MIL coming for hospital at 11.15, so must try and do some more jobs before then. Am still tired.

Hub took me to Aldi yesterday, got lots of veg, so need to organise it into meals. There was a sort of plan, but has already been changed, as we had tomato and chorizo risotto instead of Smoked salmon one last night. Will try and use some more stuff from the freezer this week as well. No soup made, but there is a bit of leftover risotto I can have when I get back from the hospital. I did start a soup, but realised no onions around. I can't make soup without onions!

Rather overcast and cold here this morning, but at least no rain.

I will have a good long time to do some work when I get home from the hospital, hub out this evening at choir and I'm not collecting DS from the station till 23.30. Perhaps a nap this afternoon?

Hope you all have a successful day.
