O/S Daily Thread for Monday 11th January 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

I'm struggling to sleep again, not helped by a visit to FIL yesterday, it's difficult listening to 4 different versions of the same story and then trying to work out which is true.

Every visit upsets hubby again, FIL just keeps on and on about BIL, not happy until he's made hubby seeth. He asks for advice but ignores everything he's told, we still don't know what is true, what he's made up and what he's just imagined, no doubt he'll turn against us again soon!

I have been following the bookworm thread on here and downloaded about 30 books on to my kindle, I shall sit and read for a while and hope I can get back to sleep eventually.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Morning all. Hope you got back to sleep HESTER. I know how rotten it is not being able to sleep. I made it until 4.30 and tossed and turned till 5.15 before admitting defeat and getting up. No snow this morning thankfully! Yesterday we had quite a decent covering but it disappeared once the sun came out.

No real plans for today. Just a pottering odd job day if I CBA! Top of the list though, I really must tidy the freezers out and get them organised. I have stuck to my intention of eating out of them since Xmas so now I can hopefully sort a drawer for fish, another for meat, another for hm meals etc. The chest one isn't too bad now I have worked through a lot of the foraged fruit.Mostly veg, baking and general overflow! It's so darned cold in that garage though I'll need to go out in coat and gloves!

Well done on your win CAMELOT! We gave up on the lottery when it went up to £2! Fingers crossed for your DD too.

Have a good day all ((((((((HUGS))))))) where wanted/needed. Take care and keep warm xx

  • Morning all, a quick post before I make some toast, have more tea and head out to work.

I've been having headaches but picked up new glasses (ow the expense for various even with OAP discount) so am hoping that eyestrain may have to do with this, will have to wait and see.

Hester, hope you got some sleep. I did, but kept waking, eventually got up at 5.

Camelot, please try not to allow your new status as a lottery winner to change you!

Must pair up some socks and get going.

    Morning everyone

HH - families can be such hard work at times, can't they? DH mother is the main problem we have, she can be so nasty, DH will only visit them now if I push, not that I want to go but can't be doing with the backlash if we don't! We only go every now and then, he insisted that we didn't visit yesterday and we drove straight past their door, he can at last see her for what she is!

Hugs to those that need/want them x

Still dark, but raining steadily and it's heavy, so loads of standing water and very wet underfoot. No frost though.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 up and getting ready for work. DS1 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Lunch yesterday was lovely at one of our favourite restaurants, a belated birthday treat for me, was delicious as always but not cheap. Tonight dinner will be gammon, egg, pots and peas. DS1 has creamy steak and spinach - all sounds nice, but I'm guiding him with his cooking and trying to do our main meal at the same time - not that difficult really.

Back to work for me today, will be interesting to see how it's all going as the supervisor and myself were off last week. Quite expecting it to be a manic Monday.

    Keep safe and well x

Thank goodness you haven't all sent me begging letters!

Dry outside at the moment, hope it stays that way but I doubt it.

Have to take friends children to school this morning, she is still at the hospital and her DH has to get to work. It's on my way with minor detours so not too bad. Netball after school and then I must go and get some logs, supplies are dangerously low!

HH - My Mother tried to play me and my DSIL off against each other, thankfully my DB isn't as daft as he appears and put a stop to it. I hope things get better for you and your DH doesn't fall back into the doldrums.

Have a good week. Take care. XX

Off to work for me, start or my long week but then a short day next week to look forward to.

DD not back at uni till next week so has today off. Not sure what's for dinner but there is some chorizo in the fridge so maybe something with that and rice ?

Need to do a wash tonight and get it in the td, we have had such a damp / mould problem in this house since having the cavity wall insulation fitted that we don't like to use the airer unless we have to, I have put a complaint in about it so we shall see.

Right better get on, have good days all xx

Morning all. Usual Monday morning rush here. Have sorted pack lunches and made porridge for breakfast, made sure uniforms are at hand and stuck a wash on the go. Time for a relaxing coffee before the younger ones get up and want my attention.

We didn't visit friends in the end yesterday so I busied myself in the kitchen. I made a couple of meat and potato pies from here

for tonight's tea. Not sure what to serve them with yet though.

Will be going into youngest daughter's bedroom today. It needs decorating so going to start preparing that and give it a good clean whilst I'm at it. Have a good day all :)

    Morning everyone,

Just got back with the girls, tipping it down with rain and so dark, am convinced the mornings are getting darker :(

Had a quiet day yesterday just pottering around, my DOH and his eldest got back around 7.30 but had a good day, had sent a large pack up with them as prices for food at stadiums can be horrendous although they always have a C@sta for treat. I just grazed all day, did make a batch of braised red cabbage so will have some tonight with chicken casserole, freeze some and take some over to my Mum on Wednesday.
One bit of very sad news, a young mare at the yard came down with colic early hours of Sunday morning and despite being rushed off the equine hospital had to be put down in the afternoon. She was only 3 and a real sweetie, her poor owner is devastated.

Take care everyone, hope you got back to sleep Hester and congrats to Camelot x
