    there is no housing crisis

    2.35 people per property
for most the country homes cheaper to buy than to rent social homes off the council

Tax payer pays your council rent so the claim you keep trying to make is false. If no housing crisis why do most people in the country want less people in the country?

Because people love an easy answer. The easiest and most pervasive answer to bad stuff is blame the people that don't fall into the group named "us".

This happens within towns, within regions, within countries and ultimate now, within nations. The EU and foreigners are a scapegoat for the rising inequality in the UK which is a broader trend in developed nations and even within countries regions.

    It won't help.

I was about to set off on a massive exercise of typing loads of text that probably no one would read, linking to URL's all over the internet to try and demonstrate it to you when it occurred to me that I don't need to. That my preferred stance could be summed up by referencing two countries, Norway and Switzerland. Now they're not without their own problems and our country is different to theirs I admit, but it cannot be argued against that they do very well out of their current arrangements. We should aim for something similar.

Only problem is that according to most of the brexiters on here, they won't accept a deal like Norway or Switzerland because it involves compromising on free movement.

As wotsthat has pointed out right from the beginning, these hand waving about trade deals and new hope in the tiger economy were just that, sleight of the hand distractions. It was always about immigration for these people.

Perhaps the mood on the continent is that the people of Hungary don't want to be flooded with migrants that Angela Merkel wants to welcome with open arms?

Perhaps the people of Italy and Greece feel the same?

Perhaps the people of Greece are sick of being told how to run their budgets, despite numerous democratic processes to stop that from happening? Similarly other countries who have had bailouts.

There's much discontent on the continent, not just in the UK. I think it's a mis-conception that these people are blaming the migrants/refugees for this, but rather the EU leadership who ultimately have control over these issues ahead of their own governments and who have done precious little to resolve it.

You just have to look at the threat from Luxembourg PM to Hungary over their stance on the Hungarian borders. Since when is it OK for Luxembourg to tell Hungary how to conduct their affairs? It's a bizarre situation they have set up and seem intent on continuing, except Tusk, it's such a shame he's not completely in charge, I would guess there would be meaningful reform in the EU if he were.

Switzerland wants tighter immigration controls too. I'm sure an arrangement can be reached, despite Junkers protestations.

I would be happy with either of those models, or even a UK model.

UK is a safe haven for investors and remember only 1 of the top 20 reasons for investing in the UK is associated with SM membership. We will get a better deal than the other 53 existing EU deals, that will do nicely.

    In the meantime........
