But at what cost in quality of experience for station users? I bet you now are much more likely to queue for the ticket machines and footbridge to change platforms and much less likely to have somewhere to sit when waiting for a train. Sure all small things but they all mount up.

There's nothing like London commuter trains to drive the point home how insignificant and unimportant that you are in life.

Clapton, I have to agree with Moby, your responses seem to distort the posts you comment upon.

Where in my post did I blame immigrants?

I have answered your questions in my post below amd you have not answered the question I asked you:

For a long time now I don't read ANY post by Clapton and NEVER reply to him. Why give oxygen to an out of control fire.

As the lead in the polls grows for a Brexit. I imagine all Brexit voters on here will have already bought their Euros or Dollars for their next trip.
At the moment I don't think there will be a run on UK Banks after Brexit but who can tell?

London is not the whole UK its only about 15% of the population of the country. Most the other 85% have no real housing issue in half the nation buying a house in the open market will cost less in mortgage payments than renting off the local council poor list

The marginal cost of transport and schools in London will be low because the marginal cost of improving is always cheaper than that of building more and with time most things lend themselves to improving. Have a look at homerton train station in hackney

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homerton_railway_station

Passenger numbers are up from 0.3 million to 5.24 million on the decade. Yes nearly 20 x as many people use the station in 2014/15 than 2004/5. The station did not expand in size 20 times. The station does not use 20 x as much electricity. The station does not cost 20 x as much to maintain. etc. Its an asset that is used much more productively at a very low marginal additional cost

it would seem that there is a difference of view between one that says actually there is no shortage of housing , health care, transport infrastructure, schooling or in any of our essential service. Furthermore the cost of upgrading to cater for extra millions that will arrive, is trivial. On the other hand some would argue the opposite.
To be fair minded, I had the pleasure of visiting Durness recently and I have to say that my observations there do add weight to your views although I did think the train station could do with a little investment.

I see that you live in Luxembourg, what do they make of it over there?

bit like asking a family totally dependent on benefits whether they are in favour of higher benefit payments

You can still learn things from what people say when they go into detail (well I can anyway).

I was mostly on benefits/student grant myself from about 1980 to 1990, at no point during that time would I have voted for higher benefits, I never lost faith that I could turn things around.

The Orb poll showing the 10 point lead certainly stood out, but the other 2 over the weekend showed an essentially tied race.

The Opinium "poll" showing the 19 point lead, has been pretty much disavowed by Opinium themselves, they did the fieldwork but the data wasn't weighted by party affiliation and social attitudes, which as anyone who follows polling knows can have a big impact on the final outcome.

    That's a clever analogy.

Train stations platforms are built long and wide for obvious reasons and don't need to be lengthened if there are 20 times more passengers. Of course, this wouldn't work for a hospital where, if there is a need for twice as many beds, we need to double the size of the hospital.
