  • I'm not worried - my Christmas shopping is done :j . It's my new goal to finish my shopping before the shops are able to warp me with their advertising. Perhaps this year I'll even stay in budget.

    Hmm...

Made the application online on Weds, same. Mind you, last time I applied their Current Account, same situation, gave me a reference, then I had to wait four weeks to receive something from them.

Not all Abbey credit cards have moved to Santander. My card was just re-issued with a new number, has the ‘Abbey’ logo (but not the Santander flame) and is still with MBNA. The card wasn’t even due to be renewed.
Accounts opened since 1 Jan 2006 have moved back to Abbey, all older accounts are still with MBNA. If you've still got the old Abbey/MBNA card, you can apply for a new Abbey card and get £50 cashback for doing a balance transfer of over £1000. (Don't think this is on the website, before anyone mentions it).

Also, if you apply for a card through a branch the decision now comes back straight away and you sign the paperwork there and then, so no need to wait for a form in the post to sign.

It is right. But you need to call them to make an appointment first. Last time I made an appointment for openning the super regular saving account at 3pm. Arrived at 2:40pm. There was no other customer there waiting. At 3:10pm, I asked the reception, if there anyone available to deal with my meeting yet. She said it was only 10 mins past of your booking. Then another 15 mins wait, a woman at last came to deal with my meeting. No apology, no mention the waiting. Only lots of questions....after 40 mins, my account was opened. I promised myself NOT to put myself on that kind of situation again.

I applied on Wednesday as well, and assumed I would have to wait to hear by email or post of the decision. If it takes up to 4 weeks then I'm glad I applied now! I currently use the GEMoney 3% cashback on all supermarket&petrol purchases but it is being discontinued from November so am planning to use the Abbey one between November and January. We spend around £300 a month on ssupermarket stuff and with Christmas food shopping thrown in there and a new baby due in 10 days  I would say we will spend on or around the £1000 to get the £50.
So long story short 4 weeks time is when I'l be wanting to start using it so I a quite chuffed . Just hope they say yes!

  • Just spoken to Abbey, the cashback does NOT apply to MBNA cards. So if you have an old ABBEY card, not Santander it wont work!

My paperwork arrived today, a week an a half since I filled out the form online. Its a Santander branded card rather than MBNA. Its gone in the post today so I imagine the card will turn up in a similar time.

i have an existing mbna abbey cashback card but have been sent an automatic applic form in post for this new abbey card with 0% bt for 6 mths and £50 cashback on £1000 txf + this cashback on supermarket purchases, thinking of applying as it looks like a good deal but it's not clear whether i can have this as well as my existing card or does it have to be instead of?

the deal sound's good at first, but when you think about it (it's capped at £50 & no cashback on other items).

    i would personally go for

eggmoney as you get £35 via quidco at the monent and you'll get 1% cashback on everything (capped at £200) & also some useful discounts eg Dixons.

    or

AMEX which also gives between £10 - £40 cashback via Quidco (depending on which card you go for) & and also includes cashback or Nectar points.

Nectar card £35 via Quidco and Collect 5,000 bonus points when you spend £200 on your Card plus Double Nectar points for your first 3 months

Its only the egg card, not egg money card that gets you the £35 from quidco.
