Rubbish. He knows exactly to say to a moaner like you to get rid of you. He doesn't agree with you at all. Your post gives it all away. No one will agree with you, it's just they know what to say to seem to agree with you just to get rid of you!

It's a rule of retail, the best way to get rid of a winger is to agree with them. You've been had by this method!

Wrong again, Mr Know-It-All! The guy is actually a friend of mine. We were having a discussion about it. I wasn't being fobbed off by anybody. He agrees with my views too but his hands are tied. Managers instruction!

And if I was store manager then if rather sell ALL my produce at reduced rate than see it end up in landfill.

No you wouldn't because your store's turnover and profits would fall, due to your customers getting accustomed to buying their stuff on the cheap, and you'd probably lose your job/business.

Exactly, they would like to sell them, not give them away for virtually nothing as you would like.
  • I always feel sorry for people like the OP. I see people like them hovering at the reductions in various shops like vultures round a carcass. It must be sad to have such an empty life that this is what you need to do with your time.

Ah, but they are claiming to do it to reduce food waste, not save money. The only problem is their principles have a monetary limit.

Our coop used to sell meat that was at its sell by date at half price.

A few months ago they stopped doing it, Now there is no reduced meat so I don't know what they do with the stuff.

They still sell cheese, cold meats, pies etc etc at a reduced price throughout the day in a reduced section.

Tesco reduce items by 50p until 4pm when anything left is marked down to 10 p.

A friend's husband had a baker's shop and he binned anything left at the end of the day. He would not reduce the price as he said people would not buy the goods at the full price but wait until closing time to buy it cheaper and he would go out of business.

A few months ago I went to the co-op at the top of my road, and for a few days, they had cabbages in the cages to be taken away by the delivery lorry after he'd made his delivery. I spoke with the manager and asked if instead to wasting them, whether he'd consider letting me have them for my chickens, in return for a regular donation to the charity pot or the reduced price on the label. I was told flat out no, that the policy was for unsold veg to go to waste.

Few days ago I walked past and in the cage to be returned were several joints of beef, veg, bread and chickens  presumably all to go in the same waste

The same stores reductions used to be really good. they've been p*ss poor for a while now

I know people who are happy and have the time to walk a mile to buy a highly reduced loaf of bread. I myself like to pop in but their reductions are probably too good, the op is just exhibiting sour grapes ( don't buy them, they are sour)

Not sour grapes at all. Just annoyance and frustration that so much food is now ending up in landfill. So presumably I'm not the only one not picking up the higher priced reductions. Why buy something on its use-by date at 9pm when you can pick up a much fresher product for just 20p more?

I don't have to walk a mile either, the Co-op is just around the corner and I'm in there most evenings anyway picking up a bottle of wine or groceries for the next day, so I'm not even going out of my way.

I only ever buy reduced price products if it's something I'd ordinarily use anyway, usually bread and veggies to make soup for lunches and raw meat for the dog.

Like I said, I see a lot of posts about charity shops, " they are pricing it too high and they are not selling it" .
What that means is " they get it free, sod the charitable cause, I should be entitled to it cheaper ". I have to say I love reductions but know no shop who prices reductions so low. Other stores have a gradual markdown over the last hour for example-I see nothing being thrown away!
I only pretty much buy reduced price meat- but it's not my right.

That's what used to happen in the Co-op. The day before, or the morning of something reaching its use-by date it would get a 10% reduction. Then again mid afternoon it would be reduced to half price if still not sold. Anything left on the shelf by around 8pm would be reduced by 75%, usually bread and veg.

But now piles of food are still sitting on the shelf at 9pm still displaying the initial 10% reduction. Nobody wants almost out of date food at that time of night if only saving pennies.
