Still got the instruction manual? They usually recommend oil types.
If not, check the manufacturer's web site - they often have on line manuals you can download to read, or will even sell you a replacement.
You "should" be OK with sunflower oil though, if you can't find a specific answer.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. thanks squaky, theres so many oils i can never decide . will go with sunflower oil . thank you very much .Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ~ WOO HOO what a ride!0

What is the healthiest oil to use while cooking?
What do they taste like?

Hi Jo,
There's an earlier thread with some links that should help explain different oils and how they can be used so I've added your thread to it to keep all the suggestions together.

Seakay is spot on! The cheap vegetable oil from Tescos is 100% rapeseed and is healthier than olive oil. Can't seem to get this fact through to OH who insists on buying sunflower though.
Nesss.
Does the Tesco oil say it's rapeseed? I avoid generic vegetable oil as I can't have corn so I'm always wary of getting mixed oil which has corn in it.
We usually use olive oil or sunflower oil depending on what we're doing.Piglet

We haven't used our deep fat fryer for years. We only used it a couple of times and then put it away and forgot about it.
I want to start using it again but I am not sure which is the best type of oil to buy for it as there are so many on the market.
A friend of ours said Rapeseed was good but can anyone else tell me what they use please?

Hi sb44,
There's an earlier thread with lots of discussion on which oil to use in a deep fat fryer that should help so I've added your post to it to keep the suggestions together.

We prefer to use the solid vegetable oil (Pura/Trex) as we keep the fryer in a kitchen cupboard so no spillage risk and also scrape it out and wrap it up when disposing of it.0
